I think it's several thousands of £- people will quote numbers here If you are very ill with episodes, I would turn up at A and E each time as they might put you higher up the ablation list. I know of someone who was ablated while on the ward as it became urgent!
Thank you ..trouble is I'm not deemed higher enough on the chad stroke risk chart so I'm not on bloodthinners so couldn't be done as an emergency via a n e and I know you have to taking bloodthinners for a month prior to ablation
OK but if i is recorded often that you have had such bad episodes I think it will move you up You can also get telling our cardiologist/EP that you are really suffering- they must prioritise when needed
that's a good idea- i suspect cancellation happens quite often- through last minute nerves, missing AC tablets and other illness
I think we are talking in the region of 15k if everything is straightforward.Maybe you could ask your EP to go on a cancellation list and start on anticoagulant treatment now.
Last time I asked it was £9k that would be just over 4 years ago - that would have been going home the same day - so long as you had the ablation early enough. If you had to stay a night it would have gone up about 500 and then about 1500 for an extra day and so on.
I had a quote last week EP £2700
Assistant £1500
Hospital £15k
That was at Harley St though so I’m looking for a cheaper private hospital facilities
If you want to go privately I would choose the consultant and then go wherever they operate. Back up staff are often better in nhs so get private bed where he she operates
You mean get a private bed at the NHS hospital that the EP normally works at ?
Yes indeed. Aftercare staff will be more experienced as loads of ablation usually done there.
I was recently advised by a family member who is a hospital consultant that unless it's for orthopaedics, stick with NHS if you can.I was actually told this last weekend!
Hang on in their and keep up the pestering if you can.
AF is super scary and horrible but as Bob D says it is not life threatening.
Maybe start daily gentle mediation and mindfulness.
Qigong exercises are gentle and good for breathing techniques too.
Lots of good ones out there on you tube
Mark Williams is excellent and not a t all "tinkly"
He is a renown professor.
Good luck with your EP

Bl**y hell, more than my partial bling knee replacement 😱
Anyone tried acupuncture? I’ve found a local practitioner and if he’ll take me in, going to go with it. I’m a Complementary Therapist anyway
Mine cost about £19K through BUPA. I think it was worth it to get the best EP and for him to actually carry out the ablation himself, rather than getting the registrar "under supervision". Mine was complex using both RF and cryo with various additional areas ablated such as the vein of marshall as well as the PV's.
