I take apixaban and have side affects including massive hair loss. A friend is on Clopidogrel with no side effects she hasn't got a f but has had a stroke. Has anyone any experience with this anticoagulant?
Clopidogrel and a f : I take apixaban... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Clopidogrel and a f
The two drugs are not remotely the same I'm afraid.
Clopidrogrel is an antiplatelet not an anticoagulant and is often taken after stroke and similar in operataion to aspirin.
Apixaban is an anticoagulant to slow down the clotting process and is essential if you have AF as antiplatelets are not useful for stroke prevention in AF.
Yet another reason why the often missused term "blood thinner" is so confusing and dangerous.
I was on clopidogrel for a year after having stents put in ,,,, then onto Apixaban, no side effects from any of them ,,I’d go see doctor and check that hair loss isn’t due to something else ,ie stress or other meds ,,,,
As Bob says Clopidogrel is no good for stroke prevention with AF. I have had side effects with all of the anti coagulants and every one causes hair loss with me.
We are all different, why not ask your doctor to change you to one of the other NOAC’s. It is worth trying.
Incidentally, I have a friend who takes clopidogrel, not for AF, and that causes hair loss.
It seems to be some people are more prone to hair loss with these tablets.
Yes, I am suffering with hair loss since starting Apixiban in June last year. It’s not falling out in clumps but has got noticeably thinner. Keep hoping things will settle down.
No I haven't noticed any more hair loss since being on Apixaban, but I don't have much hair anyway as I suffer from an overactive immune system that produces antibodies that lock onto the hair root and stop it growing. If it came down to it though as a choice I'd choose to have no hair and keep on with the Apixaban, as a stroke is far worse option from my experience.
I too have hair loss on Apixaban . From the many posts about this I get the impression that women are more badly affected by this side effect than men.
Apixaban caused massive hair loss with me. Didn't realize that it was the culprit until I was switched to Rivaroxaban for insurance reasons.

This was part of an answer provided by BobD yesterday. The man is of course, totally right.
I have been taking apixaban as part of ongoing heart medication, as well as Amiodarone and Digoxin.
I'm sorry Trixie but hair loss is a new one on me.
hope you find more help later on

Clopidogrel is not without side effects. I was prescribed this when I had an angioplasty with stents and developed a nasty rash on my torso - fortunately it was changed for a similar drug with no problems.
I had massive hair loss on warfarin and the hair loss on Apixaban is so much less that i am vastly relieved. I was so much worse. I am still losing hair but not in handfuls and there is always a certain amount of hair loss anyway. Put a few drops of essential oil of rosemary with my nisim bioactive shampoo. They both help
Hi Trixie
I am on Apixaban for AF, and have no hair loss. My husband was put on Clopidogrel after a stroke, he likes to joke that any hair he loses is a result of him tearing it out over me! Good luck.
I've been taking Apixaban for several years and have never had a problem! Sorry can't advise.........
