Hi all Im hoping for some tips,I had surgery for adhesions and appendix removal yesterday . The most dreadful pain from the gas they inflate abdomen with it hurts to breathe,apparently its Phrenic nerve inflamation they just gave me Oxynorm which is scarry. I m afraid the pain will trigger afib (I had abl no3 last July) any ideas for this scaredy cat Im feeling very sorry for myself. I know it could be far worse so I need to be thankful for small mercies but struggling. Thanks everyone stay safe and well.😀

I know the feeling C66t.

I don't think your a scaredy cat (I am) and it's natural to worry.

"Don't worry about something that may not happen. Be positive and breath deeply"

The key words here are 'may not happen' and 'be positive'. Easy to say I know as I don't feel to positive myself at the moment. I certainly think breathing and grounding may help - have a look on Google to see what works best for you.

I cant begin to explain the excruciating abdominal pain i had for three years until causes were found and op and treatment given. Never once during that time did pain set off my arrhythimas, i was amazed and relieved. Others things set if off but certainly not the pain and i was so stressed. Wishing you all the best in your recovery, stay calm.

The gas used in keyhole surgery gradually dissipates over a couple of days. If you can try to stay well hydrated especially if they have removed your saline drip. I found that it was difficult after keyhole surgery to drink much as I felt very bloated . It is the stress of pain I think rather than the pain itself which can trigger afib so try to relax and let the painkillers do their job.

You are so right the bloating is pretty bad. Today I walked a lot more which seems to help.😀

I think mine took about 5/6 days before I felt nearly back to normal. I did go into afib 3 days after op but I'm sure it was due to dehydration as they took away the drip and the catheter at the same time. My bladder was irritated and I could not stop going to the loo but because of the bloating was unable to drink enough water to make up for it. Also I used my Ventolin spray too much trying to relieve the post op throat catarrh!

C66T. I suffer from Nueropathic pain and can have a Breakthrough that could last for a couple of days. Its dreadfull but has never sparked an episode .
