Sometimes I have a feeling of an involuntary intake of breath mid chest. I don't know what this, does anyone on here know ?

Probably an ectopic beat.

Hi, I get this probably once a week or more. A friend, who also does, asked his cardiologist who said it was nothing to worry about. Hope that helps.

I get this every day now, I've never felt anything like it until I took tablets

Good point. Mine didn't start until I was put on tablets. Weird.

I get this too! My cardiologist says not to worry about it. I try no to, but Instill find it unsettling every time it happens, probably about once a week or so.I've never met anyone else who experiences this, so it's so nice to know I'm not the only one!

Yes I get this occasionally, it used to happen when I would get a very short run of very fast beats, like my heart was running away. Since being on flecainade then propafenone I’m not getting those runs anymore (touch wood) but sometimes one thump ( ectopic? ) sometimes just the gasping breath. I wonder if the fast runs were my heart trying to go into afib as it did start an episode like this once.

Most likely an ectopic, we all get them some feel them more than others, you probably get many more that you do not feel.

No not exactly as you describe, but sometimes when I get into bed and try to settle down, I feel as if I need to take a deep breath because I can't seem to breath properly. It does go away after about 5 minutes or so but very unsettling.Hope you will be fine soon

That doesn't sound nice, I haven't been able to lay properly in bed for a long time, propped up but that is due to a bad stomach but I can relate a little

I sleep with 3 pillows, but because of my Afib/tachycardia. My hubby says it’s like sleeping next to a mountain. Hope he’s talking about the pillows and not me!

This has been happening to me too. I have no idea what it’s all about but it scares me each time. Like I’m forgetting how to breathe.

I get it when I first go to sleep when I'm in the REM mode. I just turn over and go back to sleep.

Hello there, it is important not to ignore any changes to your breathing or regular chest pains. It is advisable to contact your doctor at your earliest convenience.

This forum is the best... since switching to Bisoprolol I too have experienced this and logged it as a symptom to discuss at next EP appointment. I researched it and found links to indigestion (which I have also been experiencing since switching) or a magnesium deficiency. I’ll have to ask for blood test to check latter. There’s plenty of info on esophageal spasms but like many said here etopic beats (which I’m told I have) can be felt in different body parts. When it catches in my throat it’s horrible but thankfully lasts seconds. Other places I feel it is in my lower back, bottom (like sitting on a generator) and my sides and even head! Not pleasant.

I've never experienced weird sensations that I have in the past couple of months. I do have stomach issues ( which I can't seem to shift ) but there are some issues that definitely came when started on beta blockers. I will mention it to the Dr but am hopeful it can be resolved by getting used to it or perhaps dropping the dose a little.

I have had something similar, on occasion, since my ablation 3 weeks ago. I have had a silly dry cough since as well and put it down to oesophageal irritation.
