The above time-line is "loading," which is the process of getting your body used to the Amiodarone. I was placed on a similar collapsed time-line after my first ablation. I had a hard time with vomiting and loss of appetite among other things. Glad you didn't have to go through the full loading process. I was kept on the Amiodarone. Has your EP allowed you to stop?
I have only taken the tablets for 3.5 days, so was going to wait at least a week to see the EP and finish the course of tablets, cancel my second DEC, and ask to be put on 100mg (very low dose amiodorone) due to what I read in this article that that dose is very effective and limited side-effects:
That is the initial loading dose to get it into your system. I have had the same a couple of times, where 3 months prior to cardioversion, they have put me on Amiodarone to enable NSR to remain following (I lasted 4 days without) Great that you are back in NSR but with this Russian roulette condition, things can change so dont stop the meds without discussion with your EP. Fingers crossed for you.
I have started on Amiodarone 200mg twice daily as have been in AF for a few months now. I was on bisoprolol but it wasn’t working for me so stopped it cold turkey last week when I started the Amiodarone. Not felt well since.
I started on amiodarone for paroxysmal AF and almost constant ectopics about two months ago, with a different loading regimen to yours over two weeks but also ending up on 200mg daily. I also found that it worked really quickly! I was amazed at how effective it was. For the first couple of weeks or so I felt weird on and off but after that have generally felt very well. I now have to decide whether to try the 100mg daily, and accept the trade-off of more symptoms, and/or whether to go for an ablation, which was the original plan. It’s hard to view with any enthusiasm the prospect of feeling far worse than I do now for several months if I have the ablation!
Yes, we are in similar situations. I was asked if I wanted ablation in coming months but will delay til my health cover covers most of the cost in 12m time (waiting period for pre-existing condition).
I’m not keen on ablation as it appears on this site from others it may take more than 1 go!
So IF all it takes is 100mg of amiodarone daily long term (costing $10/month) to retain NSR I would prefer that! No unknowns of ablation success, surgery recovery, cost, its so invasive etc.
