Hello everyone. I have to renew my driving licence as am 70 in June eeek. I have done it all on line, when it got to medical questions there was no mention of Atrial Fibulation, so I just sent it. It has been playing on my mind so thought I would ask you good people whether I should inform them as I am in permanent AF although well controlled and no longer under a cardiologist.
DVLA: Hello everyone. I have to renew... - Atrial Fibrillati...
DVLA
If you go onto DVLA website, then go to Medical Services, then go to Atrial Fibrillation you should find a table which sets out the can do's and cannot do. From memory if your condition is controlled and has been so for "x' amount of time then you don't have to declare it. Further, you or your cardiologist, back in the day, should have declared your condition, and once you were restored to good health DVLA should have been notified and at some point you would have had a letter from them saying you are ok to drive again. Hope that helps.John
Thank you very helpful.
That's what I did Florence - sent in a letter stating my AF and that it was controlled. They said they weren't interested as it does not affect my ability to drive. I did the same with my insurance company, with the same result.
AF only needs to be declared if your condition causes blackouts or is otherwise distracting and affects your driving.
Thank you Bob.
Thank you John.
I just turned 70 on april 14 ,and I just answered the medical questions as they were put ,you cannot go wrong, you then get the licence for 3 years ,I was diagnosed with afib 2009,but to be honest it doesn't really bother me that much.
