In April, NICE issued updated guidance on atrial fibrillation (AF) nice.org.uk/guidance/ng196 . Section 1.4 is about Personalised package of care and information for people with AF.

Not going to help if people can’t get diagnosis without 12 lead ECG

I can see AF on the pleth display on my oximeter. I was suprised that dronedarone and amiodarone are mentioned in the guidance , albeit that it states amiodarone is not for long time use. As I've mentioned here many times, I was close to critical and had to argue strongly not to be put on a respirator in ICU, due to dronedarone and amiodarone. A major problem is clinicians who don't prescribe an anticoagulant for AF; yes it was an EP in my case.

I've passed the NICE guidance to the Health Centre manager for discussion as part of the Patient Participation Group that I'm part of.

I found that being a NICE patient rep (AF patient decision aid) was a good insight into how AF is viewed and, really pleasant clinicians to work with. I recommend that experience if you get the chance.

I’ll pass on that one.

When they start paying attention to Lifestyle & start developing programmes to help people without drugs - then I’ll participate.
