Try tensing your chest area and bearing down as though you were trying to push your heart out through your bottom. Again tense your heart area and try to move it internally from side to side, or pull upwards towards your throat. Do long and also quick short holds in these postures. If that doesn't work, try having a good cough. Just some tricks I've discovered that can work.

If you are still going - and Jean’s suggestions didn’t work - lie prone on the floor and if you have anyone else around, ask for their support. Lie still fo a few moments and then get the other person to hold your ankles and lift your legs in a motion until at 90 degrees to your body OR as much as is comfortable for you - you don’t want to strain anything! You need then to hold for a few minutes and then stay still and have your legs supported on a stool and stay there for about 15 mins. When you rise - go slowly and carefully. AF may not convert into NSR immediately but often converted for me within 15 mins.

If you have an empty syringe - you can do the blowing into it trick, never worked for me but it’s the Valsalva trick most often used in hospitals.

Face into cold water - diver’s response is another.

All of above are most effective if you have vagal or mixed AF and/or any autonomic dysfunction.

Hope you find something which works for you.

Cdreamer this vagal nerve thing I have seen you talk about. I have to look into it. I find when I'm up and stressing about my heart is fine it was when I would be relaxing that it messed up. This makes me think it might have a relationship. Is it vagal toning you do for it? I vaguely remember reading about cold showers being part of that. Maybe that's why the cold water worked for me?

Great news. For any future episode gulping down a long cold drink straight from the fridge put me back in NSR as I don't normally drink anything cold which for me can start an episode as well.

Take some magnesium, deep breathe, cold water on your wrists. Listening to a normal rhythm ...my heart has always been susceptible to music. Have a warm drink or some say ice cold helps. I used to thump myself on the chest but I'm sure that wasn't the right thing to do but it did work...a few times. Doesn't seem like a good strategy though.
