Varapomil and bisoprolol for afib

Hi ..diagnosed with afib/irregular heartbeat in January and have been to see cardiologist who has carried out angiogram and also echo cardiogram , heart monitor for 3 days and numerous ecg and blood tests ..my heart is normal apart from the afib issue . Also have low potassium .

Was origin ally put on bisoprolol 2.5mg which made me feel unwell and then flecanide which had no effect on the afib and also made me feel unwell ...have now been on vwrapmil 40mg 4 times a day which dosent seem to help either so my cardiologist has added bisoprolol 1.25mg as a pill in pocket when afib is really bad ...I'm worried to take both verapamil. And bisoprol together . Has anybody got any experience on verapmil with or without bisoprolol and also flecanide experiences ...also has anybody had issues with low potassium causing afib to be worse

At 53 feel like my life is over at the moment 😢

Both verapamil & Bisoprolol are to reduce your heart rate but they work in very different ways. Bisoprolol is a beta blocker and adrenaline blocker whilst Verapamil is calcium channel blocker so sometime taking small doses of 2 different types of meds works whilst lessening side effects of larger doses of one Med may have. Neither is likely to stop your AF although if your AF is paroxysmal & triggered by high HR then it may prevent AF episode.

Have you been advised about Lifestyle changes to help your AF? What about ablation? Has that been suggested.?

Best thing is to read as much as you can about treatments & a good place to start is the AFA website. I would also recommend a book many of us are reading which explains a lot of how & why Lifestyle Medicine can really help AF The AFib Cure by Dr John Day

Best wishes

I took Verapamil for years with no problems. Then another existing heart condition worsened and my cardiologist thought Bisoprolol worse be better for me.It cancelled out debilitating palpitations whiuch were making my life quite miserable. So it does depend on what is wrong and the cardilogists experience and judgement as to which meds. you may be prescribed.
