Bisoprolol is a beta blocker which slows down your heart rate. Your current dose would fell most people I think so if you feel fatigued that would be it.
AF is a long journey as everybody experiences it individually and it may well take some time to find what works best for you including which anticoagulant to take. If your GP can't sort you out in a month or so I suggest that you ask to be referred to an arrhyuthmia specialist.
Go to AF Associationa website (see top of page) and read all you can about this mongrel condition and do ask questions here.
Hospital did the same to me, only the first episode, slapped me on 7.5mg and hey presto, near decked it. Why fgs do they start high🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️ Saw my Consultant privately and his reaction 👀
Mainley I have tiredness and aching joints, sometimes painful
Hi Andy,Looking at some years on this forum Bisoprolol seems to have two properties, the main one is to control heart rate. The secondary property is to assist in helping out lower blood pressure. I was diagnosed 11 years ago with AF and put on 5 mg Bisoprolol which I have stayed with until January 2021 when my GP increased it to 7.5 mg. supposedly to help out with the BP bit. Its not doing much in that regard I have to say.
all that said, I am a fortunate one in that Bisoprolol doesn't impair me at all.
Originally my cardiac consultant prescribed it to be taken in the morning and I did this until unwelcome side effects occurred , i.e. random and full flow nose bleeds. I went back to my GP had a damn good moan and she said take it at night. I did so then and there and have not had a nose bleed since and no other side effects at all, that was 10 and something years ago now.
Yes, it could slow the heart rate down too much. In my early days on the drug I often got HR readings of 44 to 46 bpm and my average HR used to be around 65 to 67 bpm. However, now I am on 7.5 mg my average HR is 58 to 61 bpm. I function best at 72 bpm. Back in the day, early days, I often used to get ice cold extremeties, hands, fingers and feet which would often put to me to bed with an electric blanket on and hugging a hot water bottle to my chest. Now after 11 years and a bit I get nothing like this at all. For me my feeling is that it does nothing for my BP.
Yea, My treatment with Bisoprolol is similar to yours Carneuny but is 15mgs daily. My pulse is low 45bpm, blood pressure usually between 106-119. The cardiologist isn't fazed by it even with my supposing both should be higher. All I can agree upon is I'm feeling fine, have no palpitations, never feeling exhausted, looking good and especially little to complain about cardiac-wise. Even at 75 years. Good Luck.
Yea, I think I should have added that my problem was not directly attributed to heart pain but more to HBP. At a later stage hypertrophic cardiomyopathy was discovered, but this is a different type of concern. If it had meant a shorter life I would never have got to 75. Good Luck.
In the UK if you see a consultant privately you will be seen more quickly and get a longer consultation and you are paying the bill so in my experience they go the extra mile. They can arrange for tests to be done on the nhs they won’t be quicker except you haven’t had the long wait for the initial consultation . You can get them done very quickly privately but you have to pay . I was unhappy with the cardiologist I saw when I was emergency admission and came out on bisoprolol ( I swear if my golden retriever wandered into a cardiology department she would come out on bisoprolol) so saw one privately 3 days later who told me to stop the bisoprolol he wouldn’t have put me on it and has been very supportive . People will have had different experiences that is just my take
