Hi all fellow sufferers, my SVT was getting worse having episodes everyday after walking the dogs hoovering even grating cheese. But the last two days it has stopped and it’s like getting your life back. My question is my GP upped my flecainide to 2x 75g per day from 2x 50g don’t know if this has made the difference or it’s just coincidental. I have cut out alcohol caffeine even chocolate I am a little overweight about two stone do people think if I loose the extra weight it will help my condition?

How much bearing does weight loss have
It will help your general health, lessening the burden on your heart so there is a good chance.
The studies show that maintaining BMI of 25-27 is ideal. Any extra weight over that causes stress to the body. Aim for a 2lb/week loss and when you have achieved that, keep to that eating plan as you are aiming for long term lifestyle changes - diets do not work and put you at risk of rebound weight gain.
Avoiding processed foods, sugar and sweetners helps, eat fresh preferably organic fruit & veg, lower quantity higher quality works. I find eating within 10-12 hour timeframe is helpful - as is intermittent fasting if you can do it. I need to take meds with food so I find that difficult but when I have done - quickest way to lose weight.
Yes the Flec may be helping, it’s still a low dose.
There is little doubt that weight loss great helps both general health and AF(or any arrhythmia) burden.
Google LEGACY trails in ASustralia which showed the a weight loss leading to a BMI of 25 (less than 26 ) or better in many cases removed the need for ablation.
Weight loss is always good for arrhythmia. However, you did say something about cheese in your post. Cheese has high levels of tyramine, which has been linked to AFIB and high blood pressure ... so I would avoid tyramine rich foods as much as you can.
2 stone = 14 bags of sugar. If you get a back pack, put in 14 bags of sugar and walk around for half an hour your body will be very pleased to put it down? Try 80% diet change and 20% more exercise to bring your body back into balance .It is vital get rid of the excess fat and sugar that is slowly but clogging up your arteries,
Yes if you can get 2 stone off it will likely have a very significant positive effect on your AF (and more importantly the things that can cause it such as poor sleep and high BP). Lots of studies back that up.

Yep I totally agree.
It's so easy to put weight on but not so easy to lose it ! A BMI of 25 or below is is best for us afibbers. It's worth trying to lose the extra weight - it puts less pressure on your heart. I suggest not going on a 'fad diet' (I think it's called that) but make changes over time - something you'll stick to.
