Digoxin and Atrial flutter or maybe A fib.
Hi, I’m on Digoxin but taking it for atrial fibrillation. X
My e mail in reply ha s vanished so I will start again! Make sure you are given 'the loading dose.. i was not given this and ended up after a few miserable day with continuing palpitations and had to return to hospital where they sorted it out by loading me with Digoxin and added bisprolol to control my heart rate. The moral of this is to be sure you know how Digoxin works and in fact know how all the drugs prescribed for you for work.Digoxin was precribed for me quite unexpectedly so I was not able to look it up.
My GP didn't give me a loading dose either and have had 2 days of fast heart rate and uneven heart beats no Sinus rythmn. He upped the dose to 2 pills a day, still not helping. He's calling again tomorrow and my guess is it will bu upped again.
Oh dear.I was told in the hospital by the cardiologist today (who did not prescribe the first dosings) that it would take a long time for the Digoxin to work without the loading dose. You can still have it .I was 'loaded' today a few days after the first dosing that failed and then also today they gave me a loaded dose of Bisoprolol and the two drugs together (both low doses)seem to be working...so far .I read up the leaflet that came with the Digoxin tablets and it seems quite important that a loading dose is given as a starter.
What’s a loading dose. I’m on 250 mcg.
It is a large dose of Digoxin that is given before regular dose is begun and usually there ar 2 loading doses atabout a days interval.I write as the patient not a medic,]It is a'foundation' for begin. the treatment of this drug but I know no more that whatI was told .If a loading dose is not given then the Digoxin dose, and esp. if the dose has been prescribed at a low dose does not get rid of the palpitations for 'some time' whereas with a loading dose it is said to work fairly quickly once you go on to your routine dosage.
I did and posted about my experiences on it back in 2019. In summary: all good! It was the only drug that controlled my tachycardia effectively until my ablation solved my atrial flutter. I was very grateful for it. It was another member here who told me about it, and I am very grateful to him, indeed.

Wife was on it with no side effects for 3 months. Put on by hospital when thought to be in permanent AF but taken off when she self reverted.
I have 2 flutters created by ablations along with Afib. I take digoxin
I've got flutter and it's horrible. Also not in sinus rythmn either so double whammy. I can feel every missed beat.
I can sympathize with you. I have the same thing. Just now tapering off poisonous meds to use Magnesium and Hawthorn Berry. Check out those supplements however you can’t move x them with certain meds.
