Accordingto Dr Google Carvidilol is a beta blocker like bisoprolol but not one I have heard of before used in treatment of AF.

Hi when I was diagnosed with AFIB over 5 years ago, I was put on 1.25 Bisoprolol. I only took 8 as every time I had one I was asleep in 40 mins for 5 hours and woke up feeling terrible with pain in my arms and a max HR of 117 or similar. I could not run more than 100 yards, as i was so breathless. The week before I could do 6 x 8 min miles soon knew it was the drugs. I was not in afib as i was paroxysmal. My GP changed my prescription to Atenolol another beta blocker which was a lot better but similar, so I tried that for 14 days , but was still very tired, so I went back to my GP who surmised I may not tolerate beta blockers and put me on Verapamil a calcium channel blocker. Result, no side effects. However my afib progressed over 20 months and eventually I had more and more afib attacks that the verapamil could not control and had to go on flecainide.

However the point is there are a lot of options on other beta blockers and calcium channel blockers to try if the ones you are given cause you issues. Keep trying until you get one that suits you best.

Hi - I have never taken Carvedilol was was prescribed them. I was on 5mg Bisoprolol and Diltiazem but was getting breathless most of the time(I do have mild COPD). When I went for a checkup at the Cardia Clinic I asked to change the Biso for Nebivolol (which is often prescribed for people with asthma). He looked up his book of drugs and gave me a prescription for Carvedilol, I reiterated I would like to try Nebivolol but he just ignored me.

I got the prescription and when I looked at the packet on the back it said WARNING - do not take if you have a history wheezing due to asthma or other lung diseases. So I never took them and was not happy with the doctor I had seen. So be warned this may make your breathing worse. After much nagging I got my GP to prescribe Nebivolol and it has made a huge difference far less breathlessness and general more alert in myself - the biso fog was lifted !!! I take 5mg a day (biso was the same).
