Not sure if you noticed, but Jean recently mentioned she was in a lot of pain due to problems with her gall bladder. She is being encouraged by her Doctor to go into hospital but reluctant to do so for reasons I think we all understand. She has asked me to let you know and to say that she is unable to respond to posts or messages at the moment.
Speaking personally, I think she will be peeking at the forum when she feels able so she might like to see some cheering comments but having not eaten for a while, she will not feel able to respond for a while........Thanks
Hi Jean.....Sorry to hear you are not feeling good at the moment, so wishing you all the very best for a speedy recovery & look forward to having you back on the forum with all of your invaluable advice to us all on here. All the very best to you !!! 👍😘
gall bladder pain is awful I know from experience. Hope it calms down soon,do think about going in to get it sorted . The hospitals are very well organised in terms of seperation of Covid and noncovid areas. My aunty has just had a minor op and said she felt super safe .Best wishes Jean. Keep your chin up xxx
Sorry to hear you are not well Jean - I am sure it won't be long before you will feel confident to have the surgery. In the meanwhile take care - your advice/experiences has helped so many of us so look forward to hearing from you when you are better. Take care
Thinking of you Jean and hoping this gets sorted out for you quickly. You can disregard this advice but eating green apples sometimes can help with gall bladder stones and issues. My husband had gall stones and was supposed to have surgery but after eating green apples every day, the pain went away and he never had to have the surgery.
Its going to be so worth having your gallbladder removed Jean I had 9 months of eating nothing but toast and sushi it's such a painful condition be brave you wont be sorry it's a quick laparoscopic procedure you'll be home in a day
Jean as Fairgo says the laparoscopic procedure was no problem, I had mine out 15 yrs ago in Portugal. I was concerned about eating fatty foods afterwards but it has not affected my usual 'eat most things' diet, just avoid excesses which I should have done long before. 🤞for you.
Jean, I wanted to say too that recently when I was in hospital - just as things were starting to escalate with the pandemic - it was honestly my worst fear. But actually I felt safe. They put me in a single room because of my insistence that I was at risk and I took extra precautions with sanitising all the time. I also bought a medical grade mask off the internet (which I'd had for exactly that purpose if needed) and wore it all the time - all day, all night. Within the hospital they have very strict procedures and I was impressed.
Hi Jean, thinking of you. Hope you will soon feel better. We’ll miss your posts, so look forward to your return. Such a difficult time to need medical attention and I understand totally how you feel, but there’s a lot o reassurance being offered now, so, be brave - I know you are. Big Girl Pants and all that! Lots of thoughts and love. Xx
Just wondering Tricia how you are doing now health wise - seem to remember you posted a while ago that you had moved to Wales & were trying to find a cardiologist in your area. (I think I replied to you?) Hope you are now getting good care
Hello again, nice to hear from you. I guess, in a nutshell, things have settled down a bit but I honestly can't say I feel happy or confident about the Cardiologist I have now or the general care. That said, touching wood with crossed fingers (!), I seem to be avoiding AF but I don't like the medication I am on but can't really seem to find an alternative and so will carry on for the time being; Covid sort of puts things into perspective, don't you think. One thing I have been impressed about though is that because I was worried and frightened every time I came out of AF my heart would stop for what seemed like an age but was probably a few seconds and I honestly thought I was going to die, the Cardiologist agreed that I could have a pacemaker, then along came Covid and so I thought I'd never get it done, but the NHS joined forces with The Spire in Cardiff and I had a pacemaker fitted in July. It was all ultra efficient and I was very impressed. How are you coping with lockdown and all the problems that Covid presents? Tricia
Oh things do seem to have moved on for you Tricia but, sorry you not that happy with cardiologist. pleased to hear about the pacemaker - you were fortunate to get that done as only urgent cases being done in my area according to friends (in the Midlands) - i understand Spire Cardiff has good reputation, how did you find it? What meds are you on now? Good to hear from you. Take care
Wishing you all the best. I'm still making the red onion gravy, with carrots - when you get home try adding a couple of dates - they give depth to the flavour!
Sorry to hear that Jean. Can sympathise with you, very uncomfortable. Your comments to me have always been very kind and helpful, and to others too. Look after yourself, and I hope you feel better soon.
Hi Jean , let them take the gallbladder away , laparoscopic surgery makes it so much easier . I had no post surgery pain , up and active in 4 days . Oh the relief from no more gallbladder pain was incredible . Best wishes for a speedy and pain free recovery . Perhaps another lunch time gathering when all this covid business is over xxxxx
So sorry you have the dreaded gall bladder problem. I do remember before I had my operation (which was in 1971 and quite old fashioned surgery - so different now as so easy), I always used to say that I would rather have 10 baby labour pains in one go rather than those awful gall bladder pains. I eventually succumbed to the operation when I was on morphine more than not on it.
Anyway, I have been in hospital 4 times since the beginning of December and this month with Afib/complex tachycardia and although we are all worrying about going into hospital with this awful covid around, BUT each time I was taken in I was so impressed with the care and careful, hygienic way inpatients were treated. There are, as you probably know, red and green areas and nothing is mixed and I honestly felt quite safe.
Try not to worry and also I hope all goes well and truly you will feel like a new woman when you are over the operation. Even in those days I came out of hospital with an enormous scar (not now though as small incision) and went on holiday to Majorca and within 2 days i was trailing round the champagne (or Spain's equivalent) in the sea to keep cool with friends and eating and drinking which I hadn't been able to do for a few years.
Take care and enjoy being waited on when you come out of hospital and I do hope all goes well for you.
Thank you for letting us know FlapJack. So sorry to hear your not feeling too well Jean, me thinks it may be time for that darn gall bladder to come out. Thinking of you and wishing you all the very best for a speedy recovery.

Hi Jean and or Flapjack, I have used Castor oil packs for pain in the past and also a friend who was in severe pain with Cholecystitis (blocked bile ducts due to stones) got huge relief from using hot castor oils packs on the area over her gall bladder. Organic Castor oil can be bought from the wholefood shop. If you can get a roll of lint from the chemist, use 3 layers and soak with Castor oil and heat in a microwave or in the oven. Place it over the painful area and cover with plastic or wrap yourself in clingfilm. Place a towel over the area and then a hot water bottle or heat pad. Lie down or recline for at least 1 hour. It is hugely relaxing and may actually soften the stones to the point where they can pass through. Here is a linkgallbladderattack.com/casto...
and there are many YouTubes showing how to do a castor oil pack. The best of luck to you Jean. I hope this helps.
Hello Jean, Hope you are better soon. I have never had this trouble but know a few people who have and know from them how dreadfully painful it is. My great niece had her gall bladder taken out only last week as an emergency. She has a 3 month old who has given the whole family hell for the 3 days his Mummy was away as wouldn't take to a bottle and now doesn't like his Mummy for being away from him for 3 days - my siste,r her grandma had to move in to help with him - even after Mum came home.
Know how painful they can be ,had mine removed several years ago ,my weight plummeted, the only good side effect of gall stones ,I lived on jam on toast ,(no butter) and porridge made with water ,really feel for you ,when you do have the op you’ll be walking on air ,thinking of you xx
Good wishes for a speedy recovery, Jean. Keep you spirits up!
Hope you're not suffering but it sounds like you are. I know it's a chance but you need to have that darn gallbladder removed, sounds like. You'll be glad you did. Take care and get well!! Sarah from San Diego
