Lots of people can’t tolerate bisoprolol for those and other reasons . There are lots of beta blockers have a discussion with your doctor .

Thank you for taking the time to reply. First let me wish yo a happy and healthy new year. I have only been on Bisoprolol for two weeks. I will give it another two then see my GP if things don't improve. Diltiazem seems to have been suggested a lot.

And the same to you . That’s a calcium channel blocker . A lot of people can’t get on with beta blockers . Am 3 days off Atenolol ( previously on bisoprolol ) and despite the withdrawal symptoms am turning metaphorical cartwheels of joy to be beta blocker free

Haven't done cartwheels for 50 years but worth a try !!

Are your withdrawal symptoms the same as when trying to stop the Bisoproplol or is it a bit easier?

I couldn’t tolerate the withdrawal symptoms from bisoprolol. Atenolol has been much easier the arrhythmia s stopped the anxiety stopped the feelings of weakness stopped . Am three days off atenolol and I have some withdrawal effects but so far a walk in the park by comparison fingers crossed

That's great! Hope it continues. I am still taking a very small dose of Nebivolol. I went up to the prescribed 1.25 mg when in the clinic for my hip op as they dole your drugs out to you at the time you take them- had a barny with a nurse who forgot my morning dose of Apixaban , insisted that he hadn't and insinuated I had taken it and forgotten! I am back down to the lower dose now and hoping this year will be the year I stop it altogether.

My cardiologist gave me a different beta blocker, metoprolol and when I couldn't stand it gave me a few others whose names I can no longer remember. They all made me feel like a zombie or a robot. I was supposed to take two equal doses one in the morning one at night. I've ended up taking a quarter of a dose of the metoprolol and only at night. It does affect my mood and lowers my heart rate when I vigorously work out in the morning but not nearly as badly as the prescribed dosage. I also take Solaray Hawthorn Aerial Extract twice a day. It appears to lower the frequency and amplitude of the occasional ectopic beats. While hawthorn is accepted in several countries as a treatment for AFib it is not accepted in the US.

You do need to give it a bit longer. I struggled with 1.25 to start with but I'm now on 2.5 and no problems. Happy New Year to you and good luck with your treatment.

The doc moved me down to 1.25 from 2.5 last week. Will give it a bit longer. Diltiazem seem to be a popu;ar alternative by so many caring replies. Thanks again

If you can't tolerate beta blockers (I tried bisoprolol and Atenolol) there are calcium channel blockers such as verapamil and Diltiazem that can be used for rate control . I had issues with diltiazem also but nowhere near as bad as the two beta blockers. However my reaction to bisop appears to be a lot more severe than yours .My advice is to keep on trying until you find one which has no or minimal side effects . Don't let rate control ruin your QAL until you have tried everything!

Also play around with doses (with doctors involvement). Am sure my problem with the diltiazem was the dose, but I was only months off an ablation so I put up with it until then .

Not medically trained only my personal experiences.

Best wishes

Calcium channel blockers (most common is diltiazem) are prescribed for people who can’t tolerate bisoprolol. Cardiologists believe bisoprolol has an anti arrhythmic action which is why they prefer it, but diltiazem is supposed to damp down transmission of rogue signals. Seems to work for me.

Hi, Yes, bisoprolol was not my favourite drug and after putting up with it for many years, because I just thought feeling as though walking through wet concrete was normal, I changed to Diltiazem and was a new woman almost overnight.Talk with your GP, sometimes you have to be a bit pushy!

Good luck.

Have you asked about Diltiazem? That is what I was switched to and it’s been much better for me! (Less tired and less breathless).

You’re very welcome! I only managed to stay on it for a few days, but then I do have mild asthma!

I found that for the first few weeks on Bisoprolol I was wiped out every afternoon, but after about 4 or 5 weeks my body seemed to adapt to it and I felt absolutely fine again. I think it may be worth persevering. Good luck.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. For the last three days I seem to be a lot better. so perhaps my body is getting use to the lower dose. Have a good and healthy 2021
