Hi all, just a quick question. Dose anyone know if you can get a machine from the doctors that tells you when your in AF. I was told by a cardio nurse i should get one to keep an eye on my constant AF, but when i looked they are over £100.00 which is out of my price. Thanks

Kardia is about £100. There is nothing else I know of for less. You might try EBay for second hand one?

Hi Bella160,The Kardia is indeed about £100 but it is so worth it. It was the only thing that picked up my AF after having holter monitors on for firstly, 24 hrs & then some time later for 7 days. This was confirmed by GP & Cardiologist.

I have seen them brand new on EBay for about £65.

Bella, there is no point in getting any device which is not recognised by the medical profession and the Alivecor/Kardia is the only one I know that costs around £100 and fits the bill. With Christmas coming, maybe some of your family could club together and get you something which will be incredibly useful when you see your Specialist/GP........

Hello to you , I was given a meditronic gadget which sits no more than 10 feet from my bed, apparently it monitors your heart and s member of the cardio teamwill ring you occasionally to ask to stand by the machine while they download the information, hope this helps.No charge issued by the cardio team

Kardia machines may be very good, but are not affordable for everyone. From Bella160's other posts it appears that her AF is not well controlled. An ablation was put off because of thyroid problems that don't appear to have been sorted. It's not clear whether she's been prescribed the Pill in the Pocket.

Knowing how to feel one's own pulse will help greatly. The Arrythmia Alliance have information on that. If you can feel your pulse, you can know when you are in AF.

The Atrial Fibrillation Association may know if there are any sources for the loan of Kardias. Could Rotary Clubs help in any way?

There are several mobile phone apps which can monitor your heart rate. Some of them draw a trace too so you can see how regular, or otherwise, your heart beat is. Lots of them are free.
