Hi, wondered if any of you take Atorvastatin, and have experienced Tinnitus as a side effect.

It is listed as one of the side effects.

Waiting to speak to my GP about changing to different statin.

Worth a try I suppose.

What do you all think ? 🙂

I developed tinnitus whilst on atorvastatin, and I also started apixaban roughly the same time (both some years ago).

However, I stopped taking statins altogether about a year ago and my tinnitus has gotten worse. For me, I think it's all just me getting older and a coincidence to be honest.

PS, There is a tinnitus forum on Healthunlocked, British Tinnitus Association I think it's called, not 100% certain.

I take atorvastatin and yes I do get Tinnitus but I haven't linked the two together. I looked up possible links on the tinnitus.org.uk website and there is a leaflet in information->more information->other topics->Drugs and Tinnitus and there is nothing concrete.

I had thought it was Flecainide or diltiazem that may have caused it but I stopped those 3 weeks ago yet I still have it. I'd be interested what your GP thinks and if a change works, I'll ask mine when I get the chance

Spoke to GP and I'm having a month of statins to see if there is an improvement, if so I'll change to different statin, if not I'll stay on Atorvastatin.

It does say on internet that there is link between Tinnitus and Atorvastatin, the Gp and Pharacist looked it up aswell and confirmed.

So, I'll wait and see what happens and let you know 🙂

My tinnitus has worsened since I've been taking statins, but I've also got older in that time, so I've come to accept my GP's explanation that it is age- not statin-related. I did stop the statins for about a year or so some time back, more because of tiredness and muscle fatigue, but to no avail. In the end, I accept that at 67, I'm not going to function as well as at 57!

I wish there were a cure for tinnitus, though, since it affects general hearing, too, and is sometimes very annoying. I did meet a young chap once who had it very badly and it was a major issue for him. It seems to run in families, as both my grandmother and father had it. Mine is like my grandmother's, a ringing sound, whereas my father's was, in his words, like an express train. Like him, I also suffer with sinus and catarrh troubles and I do feel there is a connection.

My tinnitus is caused by my anxiety issue, I had that first for a few weeks but now it's worse some times, eases in the very rare moments that I am calm.
