tinnitus

I stopped taking Bisoprolol a few days ago and advised to use it as a ‘pill in the pocket’, when I go into AF, I now have tinnitus started yesterday evening, it’s like a rumbling sound, like I can hear the blood going through the veins in my ears. Do you think there is a link to me stopping Bisoprolol ?

Pullsatile tinnitus (where you can hear you pulse in your ears) is common with AF and nothing to do with any drugs.

Thanks Bob, I didn’t know tinnitus is common with AF.

Judging by comments from members here over the years it is, though partly I am sure because we all get so aware of our hearts.

It could be just changes in the force of your heartbeat. I find my tinnitus changes randomly from a loud hissing to a quiet background whisper.

Thanks for replying, that makes sense.

Yes, Finvola, that's what happens to me, when the force of my irregular heartbeat is strong, I feel awful, and it disturbs my sleep greatly which is always light and awakes me 30 times. With only a few minutes of deep or rem stages, some nights. I started with Pulsatile Tinnitus before AF, but it was a regular beat. As the last resort, I had the PM implanted and wait to have the AV node ablated, hopefully it would easy my dilemma before going totally insane

Sounds like pulsatile tinnitus. I get it pretty much all the time these days. And I've not had AF since May 2022. See what others say.

Yes common. I have had it for ages and am just on Flecainide. I have read after a while the brain screens it out to some degree and I think that is right as when I am working I am not conscious of it until I am sat down quietly relaxing.

I started with tinnitus years ago; a very high pitched whining noise; nothing to do with tablets . I only notice it like now when someone mentions it or when everything is very quiet . It's there all the time but mostly other noises distract me from it.

I used to get pulsatile tinnitus sometimes when my left ear was touching my pillow. As I sleep on my right side or back that now happens very rarely. I have a deep rumbling tinnitus from my right ear 24/7.

That's exactly what mine was like, a very deep rumbling and very loud in my left ear, most of yesterday. Fortunately, I don't have it today.

Hi yes I’m on Bisoprolol I take one every morning I’ve never heard of it as a pill in the pocket and you shouldn’t just stop taking it I don’t know if it has anything to do with your other problem but my advice is to see your doctor again hope this helps

Thanks for replying. I think that’s good advice. I went into AF 3 days after stopping the Bisoprolol. The tinnitus started about 12 hours before my Kardia picked up possible AF. I am seeing a cardiologist in November. It was a cardiologist back in March who said I could use Bisoprolol as a ‘pill in the pocket’. I am back on Bisoprolol, at least till I see the cardiologist again. My GP put me to take the Bisoprolol every day when I was in AF 2 months ago. My concern is that you take a drug (Bisoprolol) for a condition (AF) that hardly ever happens, several years between episodes and then your can’t do without it.

I have Bisoprolol as a PIP. I can’t take it regularly because it lowers my blood pressure too much. My doctor advised me to take it this way, starting with a low dose of 1.5 and if that doesn’t work take another after 30 minutes. It’s worked, so far, for me.

I started with Pulsatile tinnitus long before AF was diagnosed. After an Otorhinolaryngology test, I was told the tinnitus was coming from the heart. Then my GP sent me for other tests and I was diagnosed with Carotid calcification. Since AF started in 2011, I never hear my heart beating again but just pulsation in my left ear 24/7 which drives me insane. Yes, especially when the beating is powerful.
