I make these comments from my own experience, NOT, as a healthcare professional ... and remember we are all different.
Depends if you are able to monitor the readings and with what devices. Pulse is a bit higher than the top of the normal range ( 60 - 100), if it went higher I would be more worried. BP - systolic (113) is a bit low, diastolic (72) is pretty good.
So, it also depends if these readings are taken when resting or after some activity. It would also depend on how you were feeling, like if you felt close to fainting then get help, if you felt fairly normal then feel your pulse and see if you have a regular pulse or a chaotic one.
Back in the day my normal BP was 136/80, the day AF mugged me it dropped progressively as low as 76/50 and my HR topped it at 156 bpm at which point my GP sent me to A & E, but, actually, I wasn't feeling too bad. Nowhere near the train wreck that I eventually became.
May the force be with you.
John
Hi - yes and much longer with higher pulse and lower BP - many times and survived. I haven’t ever had a cardioversion as I always - eventually - self converted but a long episode would last for 3-4 days.
I think you are quite new to this and it can all seem rather overwhelming and very worrying at first but it does get better.
Thank you
It does help to know how other people cope.
Practise deep breathing exercises - slow breathing to 6 breathes a minute, helps you manage the anxiety and keep well hydrated - AF makes us pee a lot and dehydration is a big contributory factor. I found that Coconut water (the real thing - NOT a drink which may contain anything else other than pure coconut water) helps keep electrolytes balances and hydrated.
Hope you feel better soon. If you continue feeling ill then don’t hesitate to call your GP or phone 111. If you experience any chest pain or feel very ill then call 999.
Are you on any meds?
Hi Glad 😊I have been having episode of P-AF with a HR (pulse) of 148 usually lasting 10 hours for the last 3 years and for the last year that has been a minimum of one episode every 10-14 days .My BP is all over the place during episodes but I would be happy with 113/72.
During a recent episode of P-AF in September I attended a long awaited appointment at an arrhythmia clinic feeling like death with a HR of 148 and and a BP of 158/85 and the Electrophysiologist I saw seemed unconcerned . He just said 'mmmm your BP is a little high'.
It is important to consider if you have other co morbidities and if you have any concerns contact your GP/consultant.
Yes regularly over the last 15 years or so. Heart rate varies from 80 to 170 from one minute to the next and BP is all over the place as well ,with some very weird reading (ie upside down!) and lasts normally 4 to 8 hrs but can shorten it by going for a walk at high pace 15 min to a hour but it always seems to happen in the middle of the night or when it’s raining! It did last for a day or two but not in the last decade ,touch wood! If your unsure and this is from my experiences don’t mess about with 111 go straight toA&E and get checked out which will at least put your mind at rest and make sure there is no serious underlying condition .
I remember my first time went to A&E late at night and parked on double yellows outside as I thought it would be straight in and out but they kept me in overnight ! My wife got a lift off the brother in law early the next morning before the ‘bizzies’ gave it a ticket.
I’ve been in af for three months now so if it was only 7 hours I’d be well pleased.
Hi Glad80, I was diagnosed last December and pulse rate was approx 180 in A&E. I have had 9 further episodes of Afib since then ,the last one 2 weeks ago, all start as fast heart rate, waking me up around midnight, approx. 170 heart rate (and higher) and gradually reducing over next 10 - 12 hours to approx. 110bpm when I usually go back into NSR after my brisk morning walk with dogs ( thank god! ) All captured on my KARDIA which displays my heart rate. Pulse rate is always quite chaotic and uncountable during episodes, BP about 110/70 or lower which is very low for me. Pulse rate and actual heart rate listened with stethoscope can be vastly different. Normal pulse rate in NSR approx. 60bpm at rest. Is this what you were asking? Chris
Did you go to A&E with 170 heart beat?
Hi, I only went to A&E the first time, stayed at home all other occasions as although heart jumping around like a rabbit break dancing I managed to stay calm and followed other advice & suggestions I had seen on here. Didn't want to go to A&E again unless I had to especially as we were in lockdown by the time I had 2nd episode and the others. I wouldn't have hesitated if I had had chest pain or felt really unwell (I do get a bit of chest discomfort and shoulder ache while in Afib and feel rather weak & wobbly, I think that is fairly common from reading other posts on here ). I did slow deep breathing and sat up in bed reading had a warm drink and a couple of paracetamols (have checked with pharmacist that they are ok to take) and then tried to go back to sleep after a couple of hours, heart rate comes down slowly usually as I relax. Every one is different in how they experience their Afib and how bad they feel but this site has been a god send to me with the calm voice of reason and good advice and support here. We are all different and by reading the other posts on here you can find many different ways of coping with your symptoms and be able to decide what to do. I found that taking Magnesium as suggested on here has helped reduce my ectopics and helps me to get off to sleep and sleep better and feel more relaxed. I hope that you start to feel better soon and not be quite so worried, I do know how you are feeling for I have been there, along with probably everyone else on this site, it is quite a shock to start with and you loose confidence in your body and ability to control it. It will get better for you as you learn more about it by reading the different posts on here and the information pinned posts at the top of the page on the right. Chris
My heart rate is around that all (or more) the time when I am moving or after movement. My resting HR is around 95 - 105. This is all when I am in SR. Higher when in AF. I shouldn't worry too much just keep a record and let your EP know.
Thank you so much for all the response to my question. It is so helpful to know i am not alone in this mindfield .I feel a.bit more satisfied that medication or other treatments can help.
Thank you all so much....
