Hi, I was taken into hospital thurs and have now been discharged, was as though my heart was aching and shortness of breath, when paramedics came I did not realise I was in AF heart was racing, blood pressure high but no jumping beats which I normally have when in AF so was surprise I was in AF. had several heart blood test as the doctor said I have a heart score of 27 and needed to ensure that it was not going higher, does anyone know what he means and what it is called in medical terms, I will be having a telephone consultant with my cardiologist 27th Nov as it looks likely that an ablation will be on the cards as it was suggested last Nov but was trying with flecainide first which is not working as well as it was when first prescribed, take care, stay well and stay safe

Hi Bob

Me neither in all my years but my friends husband who has not been long out of the same hospital having had a heart attack knew as her husband was on a low score, I wonder if I interpreted it wrong, he said something like if it was 1 to 3 heart is normal and if it goes higher there is cause for concern , the blood test as to make sure the number 27 stayed the same (luckily it did) will ask my cardiologist on appointment day , knowing me got it upside down 😏

I think it might refer to the troponin level, there are different scales but the NHS one I looked at goes 0-14, 14-30, 30+. The first is OK, the second means possible heart attack, and the last means probable heart attack. When you go into hospital with heart pain they immediately take a blood test to check your troponin levels, if too high you have more tests and if higher 6 hours later you may have an angiogram - I’ve been through that system myself but diagnosed with coronary artery spasm instead of a blockage. Troponin levels can go up for other reasons apparently so don’t definitely indicate a heart problem. Anyway that seems to fit your experience.
