There are many on this blog over 80 or approaching 80 years old. Bleeding due to anti-coagulants is a concern in this group. The following trial may be of interest:
Edoxaban for > 80 years: There are many... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Edoxaban for > 80 years
Hi cuore. Hope you are doing well.
I am not having much luck registering with this website. Password problems....I have too many. Brain problems...can't keep track of them. What does it say roughly speaking? Not yet approaching 80 but would like to be prepared!
Regards
I have copied the conclusion:
CONCLUSIONS
In very elderly Japanese patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation who were not appropriate candidates for standard doses of oral anticoagulants, a once-daily 15-mg dose of edoxaban was superior to placebo in preventing stroke or systemic embolism and did not result in a significantly higher incidence of major bleeding than placebo. (Funded by Daiichi Sankyo; ELDERCARE-AF ClinicalTrials.gov number, NCT02801669. opens in new tab.)
I take it to mean that if one is elderly and that one is susceptible to bleeding, then a regular dose of a direct oral anticoagulant may be a bleeding concern. Taking one 15mg Edoxaban ( it is one of the direct oral anticoagulants) got almost the same results as someone who was not on the drug.
I am well, thank you. Sixteen months post third ablation and I am in sinus.
It seems I am on the highest dose of Eliquis but, when it came to doing the Vit D test yesterday I had a lot of trouble getting it to bleed enough!
