Me and my big mouth......!

Good morning Crazy Heart Members.

I posted last week about normal service being resumed after weeks of AF nonsense. Spoke too soon, beast came back next day despite using extra flec as PIP.

Sent kardia reading to EP. Email message ,he's on leave till 1 Sept.

So...rang arrthymia nurse. Explained how long ,and how it's continous and also feels different.

She was kind enough to email Proff Osman ,and bless him ,he answered. To up flecanide to 100 mg x twice and up bisoprolol to 3.75.This was Monday.

By Wednesday no change. As luck would have it ,I was already expecting a phone appointment with the cardiologist at our local hospital for annual review of my wonky valve.

Well,what a lovely man he was. New man on the block. Half an hour on the phone. His main message , which is one of the reasons I'm posting, was;

"You are protected from stroke. Your risk is only slightly above what a non AF person has.

Think of AF as a damn nuisance and inconvenience

Ablation is now considered by many in the field to be therapeutic and reduces mortality in the AF population ,not just for QOL."

He has emailed Proff Osman with our conversation details and agreed about the dosing. He did say it may take several weeks for the meds to calm it all down again.

He was pleased my rate in AF rarely goes over 100 bpm.

He also explained about how the new anticoagulants work, and how they are more effective for most people( not all) than warfarin.New ones work directly on the clotting process, warfarin indirectly.

So I am waiting to see what happens now. Trying not to overdo things but pottering about freezing and making jam etc from allotment.

I have a clinic appointment with Proff O end of October. I expect I will be on ablation list again!

One thing to add..as I said this sensation is different to before. Every 30 seconds or so I get a whirring fast sensation ( caught on kardia ) says it's possible AF and sometimes unclassified.

Anyone else had this ?

Sorry for essay here. But it's do good to be able to share things .

I saw Petes post about the mindgames,so true and difficult to rise above. Our common sense gets a bashing when your heart is playing the Fandango, and it's hard to ignore!

I've been quietly miserable over this myself but appreciated my peptalk with cardio

Wishing you all a NSR weekend!

sorry to hear that you are back in AF, as for the unclassified/possible AF when I have seen those on my Kardia it is usually because I was in SVT or a period of bigeminy/trigeminy

Interesting

Thank you Mikee69. I know what svt is,my little goddaughter has it but not sure what the trigeminy is ?

Yes I thought the ablation quote was interesting. I've been dithering for a long time about the merits of it ,if just for QOL,as usually my AF doesn't knock me over.

Tri-geminy is like bi-geminy but three ectopics in a row rather than two. It's horrible and feels a lot like AF

Ah that might be it..the sensation doesn't last long. Cheers

Think so too Bob! He's at the George Eliot hospital trust.

I know the whirring sensation, I’ve assumed that I can feel what the atria are doing for a moment or that a few beats are escaping the AV node in ‘real time’ ie 300 BPM or so 🤔

This is very interesting to read ! I particularly like the comment about ablation being therapeutic and not merely for QOL.

My lovely EP phoned me this week to see how I was getting on ( would have been due my 6 monthly check up face to face ) . He asked how I felt about a 4th ablation as I've been rather dithery about the prospect. The aforementioned comment now makes me feel more positive about my situation.

Thank you! Hope you get sorted soon.

Ah I do have both AF and Flutter . Not had flutter for a long time and find it difficult to tell difference. Thank you John

Hi Wilson and sorry about the AF returning, doesn’t it always happen like that?

I would echo Bob’s comment on how a sensible conversation with a reassuring doctor can help and how important that can be. Interesting comment re Ablation but doesn’t change my view that it’s still an invasive procedure that many find takes a long time to recover from.

Hope it goes well with the appointment with Prof O and may you return to NSR very soon.

Thank you CD. I shall appriach ablation with extreme caution. I took myself off the list last year because of concerns.

See what occurs soon

Hope you are well too x

Three things I've learnt in life, never brag about how well you're keeping, how well your car runs, or that you haven't had any big spiders in the house!

Glad you got everything sorted so quickly.

Love it Jean!

Hopefully find out what's what soon. At least things are moving a bit now. Was away last week helping aged aunty sort out house following uncles death. Wasn't a cheerful week! Without a car there felt quite vulnerable ...

Probably added to the party ,which had gone on for most of August!

Hope you are keeping well. I see you have AF as a constant friend now...

Jean..also the car ! I was recently saying how reliable my 20 year old car is.

Off tomorrow to look for new one as this one has packed up and will cost too much to repair.

Now checking for tarantulas..although it's my hubby that is scared not me. I grew up in Singapore ..lots of Things out there ! X
