Hmm what to say Blue bell ?

I think Doodle's answer is a good idea for you.

Just one thing to add - us men can suffer from a simlar problem although in a different way. It's always a massive worry though. I've decided to carry on with my Pradaxa for now (see my question about it) but sometimes you see a little bleed when you shouldn't.

I think you ladies are 'much more on the ball' in speaking to your doctor - us men tend to leave things and don't get them checked out when we should.

It's the way of life I guess.

There are tests you can have done by your doctor to check 'poo' samples (assuming that's what you mean). Maybe you should have it done to put your mind at rest.

You'll be fine I'm sure but have checked out ;-)

Never wait....

Important not to wait. He's in a catch 22. On one hand when you have a stomach bleed, they take you off the blood thinners temporarily and on the other hand you can't just take yourself off of blood thinners. And another thing is if he's already bleeding, blood thinners can exacerbate the bleeding. I went though many stomach bleeds with my husband and It's important your husband gets to the er.

I have been on Rivaroxaban for about six years and haven't had any issues.... it is a much safer drug (IMHO) than Warfarin.... however, you should not have any kind of a stomach bleed so please get yourself checked out PDQ.

Had a panic recently but had forgotten I had been eating beetroot. Red blood is external not from inside of course only black stools show that. Roast beetroot = black stools.

Hi Bob, Thank you it is my husband that has black stools, we will give it a couple of days then get him to docs.

I love beetroot, even trying raw grated.

Having just thought he does have blueberries most days so maybe!

take care of yourself, this site would be a lot less interesting without your input.😍

in reply tobluebell111

I think he best not wait two days

Hi Bluebell. So I’m one of the few who did have problems with Rivaroxaban. Tell your husband to see a GP for a blood test to check his blood count and to be referred to the hospital!! I had a gastric bleed that I only found out about when a routine blood test came back showing a very low blood count. Was referred for a colonoscopy which identified where the bleed was coming from all fixed quickly with laser treatment.

No way of identifying whether the cause was rivaroxaban or something else but the consultant I saw recommended I stop taking it for a while. A year since then, I have now changed to a different anticoagulant- Endoxaban- and also have more frequent blood tests but have had no further problems with bleeds.

It really is worth checking this out - the colonoscopy was quick and uncomfortable rather than painful - and there are other anticoagulants if He is worried about continuing with rivaroxaban (as I was!)

I was on Rivaroxaban for more than 3 years. Earlier this year I had an endoscopy which diagnosed drug related erosive gastritis with recent bleeding. It can only be the Rivaroxaban that caused this.

I cannot tolerate PPI’s so was put on ranitidine, which has now been withdrawn. It didn’t work anyway.

I am still trying to heal my stomach so asked for a break from oral anti coagulants. I am currently self administering clexane injections to give my stomach a break.

However, the injections cause nausea and when I asked my GP if it was likely that injections would add to my stomach problems, he said all anti coagulants can cause stomach problems.

For me, I don’t know what the answer is because the injections are only short term and I have already tried the other DOAC’s and they all cause nausea.

I posted last week about this --- Rivaroxaban 20 mg caused me to have blood in my urine after I had been taking it for well over a year. My doc cut it back to 15 mg, and all the bleeding stopped.
