Patients who suffer from thrombosis, pulmonary embolism or stroke are usually administered drugs that help their blood flow more smoothly. Anticoagulants, or "blood thinners" as they are popularly known, can keep blood clots from forming or getting bigger, and can therefore help with recovery from heart defects or prevent further complications.

I dare not blow my nose. The thought of another bleed terrifies me. I can't explain just how awful the whole event was. When my eyes became blurred and I started feeling odd I wondered who would be around to help me as it was 2am-3am, if I would die, or come around at a later time to discover I'd been operated on. I was told I wasn't going to be given a blood transfusion, but put on a drip. I'd had 3-4 hrs of my nose gushing with blood. See I can still waffle on about it now! Still feel the trauma.

It must of been such a trauma. Youā€™ll never forget it as it was the unknown and when you were feeling like you were going to die and alone that must of made your heart pound. Bless you. Horrible memory. Iā€™m sending you a big hug and Iā€™ll pray it will never ever happen again. I think I WOULD of died with fright. Brave lady. Xxxx

Seems to have caused a lot of noise and posts about this subject have been pulled from quite a few sources including Reddit because replies were less than civil!

Only been tested on animals so far and Iā€™m not holding my breath for it to be cleared for use as an oral tablet and the way I read this article, Iā€™m not sure it will be available in my lifetime as there is a way to go to prove efficacy.

Sorry to say I was getting on average 2 nosebleeds each day. I cured these myself by trimming my edoxoban down by about a quarter. No problems since x

There is no guarantee at all that there will not be the other side effects that some people suffer from on anticoagulants. I am far more concerned by the increase in my joint pain that I am convinced Apixaban is causing than by the increased bleeding from scratches by rose thorns etc when gardening. Several times I have temporarily decreased the Apixaban dose and thhe joint pain improves then gets worse when upping it again.

Iā€™m very interested to read your views on Apixaban side effects. I have the same problem with joint pain and other difficulties including blood in urine which has been constant since I started taking it five years ago. Iā€™m seriously thinking of reverting to Warfarin in spite of the faffing about with testing etc.

My GP refuses to prescribe Coumadine ( what they call Warfarin here in France) . He is convinced it is more dangerous than the NOACs. I was on Previscan ( another vit K antagonist) for a while when I had my first attack of afib and it gave me severe leg pain. I also had difficulty maintaining my INR in range.

I am waiting at the moment to see a surgeon to fix a date for a hip replacement. My GP has looked at the xrays I had done last October and said I have no cartilage at all in my right hip. Though I got the referral letter in March covid has since got in the way and my appointment is not till the end of the month. Recently the left hip is starting to go too. The lack of cartilage is probably due to Fluoroquinolone toxicity as I have had cartilage degeneration in my ribs for many years ( only on Apixaban since March 2019) and I have had restricted movement in my right hip before Apixaban. If after the operation I am still having problems I might ask to change to Edoxaban. I do not want to try Rivaroxaban unless as a last resort as that has the most complaints of all the "bans" . I have tried Pradaxa - gave me indigestion and reflux , not good for my afib.
