Ablation.

I had good news this morning. I took a call from the Bristol Heart Institute with a date for my ablation. I am to have it at The Spire, Bristol, on 29th July. From the 13th of July I have to isolate, as does my husband and I also have to have a covid test before I go in. I have no more information yet.

I can't tell you how relieved I am. I have had 4 episodes of af this month, 2 of which came on whilst I was out walking. It is definitely time!

good news- hope all goes well. Do you have to isolate for to weeks afterwards too- that is what I have been told for knee surgery- but they won't do it yet as in high risk group cos on Apixaban!!

Rosy I thought apixaban started out as an anticoagulant FOR knee surgery? I'm sure that was the first license for it's use or was that another DOAC?

Yes- I think they are using it as a short hand way of triaging people after the article on surgery and Covid in the Lancet on 29th May!! I did tell the pre assessment sister it wasn't given because I have a clotting disorder!!

Not that I know of Rosy but I have only had a phone call re the appointment and whether I was happy to go ahead with it under those requirements.

Glad you have got a date.

Whenever I had an ablation planned I found myself counting the weeks, days & hours leading up to it.

Then all of a sudden it was all over.

So even though it is some weeks away remember that afterwards you must take it very easy for at least 2 weeks. Don’t be too anxious if you don’t get an instant result (it rarely happens) and be kind to yourself and if possible allow other to pamper you.

I wish you all the best for a positive outcome.

Pete

I'll definitely be printing them both out tomorrow Bob.

A friend of mine is having a hip replacement tomorrow and she only has to isolate for 7 days before and 7 after. Mind you she's having it done at a small private hospital (paid for by the NHS).

Hope all goes well for you Cally.

The Spire is private Jean, it'll be paid for by the NHS though. I was told that a 16 day isolation beforehand is their policy!

Thank you, I'm a positive person though so am sure it will go well.

I had my ablation at The Spire, under NHS (BHI). All the staff were very nice, having my own room with tv (even though I wasn’t really watching it, was a bit out of it) was lovely. Parking so much easier than at BHI! Mine was done by Dr Barman, he was excellent! Hope all goes well for you.

The parking will definitely be a bonus jobristol, as you know, it isn't good at all at the BHI.

I'm sure all will go well, thanks.

I’m having my second ablation at St Thomas’s on July 13. Also having 2 weeks of isolation beforehand and a messenger is coming to give me a Covid test on the 10th.
