Good morning,
Has anyone been told to take Eliquis with a 85mg asperin? And why?
Thank you.

Aspirin is not recommended for stroke prevention in patients with AF for whom anticoagulants like Eliquis are correct. It can be added to Warfarin for people who have stents or articifical valves as it is an antiplatelet and can help prevent clogging of said valves/stents.
Aspirin can cause internal bleeding issues far more than can anticoagulants so needs careful monitoring. This is the advice here in UK and Europe.
I presented your post here verbatim to my Cardiologist and this is his reply:
"Your CHADSVasc score is 1 (for age > 65). This puts you are a lower risk of stroke and anticoagulation with Pradaxa/Eliquis is really optional. I anticoagulate when someone is a score of 2.
Its correct that aspirin has fallen out of favor but I still use 81mg (not higher) in patients who are a score of 1 as it does provide some mild protection.
Therefore, I would lower your dose to 81mg and continue.
I am only on two 81mg. Aspirin tablets and no blood thinners for paroxymal AF. My cardiologist feels that the bleeding risk is much higher with Eliquis at this point. I have been on this regimen for about a year and a half to two years.
See Bob’s reply. Aspirin not recommended as an anticoagulant (it’s an anti platelet) for those with AF.
I am on Eliquis and take one 81 mg aspirin daily. I have had a stroke.
Does the type, frequency and lengths of episodes, and severity of the AF factor into these choices of whether or not and how to use blood thinners, aspirin, etc?
strangely my cardiologist suggested adding a baby aspirin daily and cutting my Eliquis in half because ultrasound shoed medium blockage in my carotid arteries. I contacted Dr Esselstyn ("Reversing Heart Disease") and he said that Cleveland Clinic does not recommend aspirin but instead to follow his dietary advice which I have been doing now for 6mths (oil free plant based diet) .
I asked my cardiologist about the concerns regarding blood thinners and aspirin and this is verbatim his response:
