Flutter in rhythm

Hi guys,

I’m 36 and have had my heart go out of rhythm twice in 4 years! Ive been put on 2.5mg of bisoprolol, I also have a drug to take if my heart rate rapidly increases and goes out of Rhythm! They think I may have artial fibulation, but awaiting more cardiology tests to confirm this! Obviously with the current situation these have been put on hold!

For the last 2 evenings I’ve been getting a flutter in my rhythm every 4th beat or so? My heart rate isn’t overly high, but maybe that’s the better blocker, could this flutter be an AF episode? Should I take my medication? I’m just worried it will make my heart rate to low?

Thanks Carly

This is probably ectopic (out of place ) beats which are very common. We all get them regardless of AF or not but once we have anay hdeart arrhythmias we tend to notice things other people don't. If you look at pinned posts on the right of your screenn there is a link for newbieswhich may be useful. Read all you can as knowledge is power.

Hi. I’ve only recently been diagnosed with Atrial flutter with AF. I’m absolutely paranoid about what is happening with my heart beat. Not sure what the difference is between the two but I think I’m in AF when my heart is racing and pounding as opposed to fluttering where, other than a fast heart rate, I feel ok. I am lucky in as much as I can contact the cardiac nurses at the hospital I’m under. I’ve been on Bisoprolol for years for a different condition and I know it is slow release so don’t stop taking your medication (unless the doctor has agreed it). Just out of interest, what medication have they given you for if your heart rate speeds? I’m still trying to find a good medication for this so am interested in what other doctors have prescribed. Hope you are okay. Having things happen to your heart can be a scary time - I’m still trying to come to terms with what is happening. X

Everyone is different. And the conditions are mongrel! I was completely asymptomatic in high rate AFib, resting up to 190 or even 243 when running I could not tell I was in afib. Only diagnosed owing to my Garmin HR Monitor showing the high rate.

After an ablation for the afib, I then developed reentrant atrial flutter. Rate controlled by the diltiazem I was taking 137 to 140 bpm. Walking 20 feet into the kitchen to make a brew left me breathless ! MUCH WORSE than afib.

In AF terms, you are very young (36 years) plus most infrequent AF - twice in 4 years. I would be curious to know the rush to place you on 2.5 mg Bisoprolol rather than waiting when you had more frequent episodes. You do not say how long your two episodes lasted, and what you were doing when the episodes started (possible triggers). I would suggest you purchase a Kardia so that you may catch your AF. The readings would help to show your doctor. I do agree with Bob that they could be ectopics.
