I had an ablation in January 2019 which stopped my persistent afib. In Feb. 2019 I had a heart attack & had 3 stents. In 2018 I had been hospitalized twice for congestive heart failure apparently brought on by the Afib. My heart function has returned to a normal range. In a visit this week with my electrophysiologist, he said that I will back into Afib at some point. He suggested I might consider another ablation as preemptive. Has anyone heard of this?

Need for 2nd Ablation
Hi - my goodness you have been on a journey, so pleased for you that the treatments have helped you and encouraging for others who have been diagnosed with HF.
If you are asking has anyone had to have more than one ablation - yes - many here have had 2,3,4 or in a few cases even more. Ablation is not a cure for AF and it often returns after seemingly successful ablation.
I was diagnosed with PAF in 2008 although had it for some years prior, ablations in 2013 and 2014 gave me 3 years free of AF. Returned in 2017. Pacemaker in 2018 with revision 2019. I haven’t had an episode now for about 9 months.
Hopefully, AF won’t return so keep yourself stress free, fit and well and maybe you will stay in NSR.
Best wishes CD
Hi, do you live in the US? I doubt anyone here would be offered a ‘preemptive’ ablation but you never know!
What is a preemptive ablation and what is this electrophysiologist going to ablate ?
