Do drink plenty especially at this time of year when it is warm and dry. Do you suffer from sleep apnoea by the way as this could do it.

Dont think have Sleep apnoea ..i get dehydrated easily at night as take antihistamines ..Just worried that ablation may be “ on the way out” or can we get blips? Thank you so much for replying!

I had a flutter ablation August 2018 which worked but gave me atrial fibrillation two days later. Catheter cardioversion three weeks later and then all clear from the September 2018 to end of August 2019 when I had three episodes of fibrillation in four weeks. PIP worked but my consultant then decided twice a day Flecainide since October 2019. Apart from an odd spell of ectopics earlier in the year which stopped for no reason after a few days as it had started for no reason things have been fine. Apparently my consultant says ablation can work for a bit, it can work forever or it doesn’t work, there are many variables. The one thing he always bangs on about is that there are numerous ways to manage this condition which isn’t life threatening if its known about and managed which is massively reassuring...and he really does know his stuff...so fingers crossed. I am never going to pretend I am the way I was before August 2018 but I think of some of the terrible things others have to endure and I think to myself could be far, far worse (and the people in this group are cracking at making you feel you are not alone)

Thanks for your reply ...I had the ablation

As my body rejected all the drugs esp flecanaide! So im hoping to find some natural alternatives if i need to ..im hoping its just a blip...but of course as you were told there are all sorts of outcomes! I hope it goes well for you...

Strangely in the time since the first post this afternoon I have just been face-timing with my eldest daughters prospective father in law who had his flutter done some months ago and now has fibrillation and feels crap. Getting to see a consultant at the moment with covid-19 is proving very difficult. So there’s always someone worse off than oneself I remind myself...

I’ve been free of AF for almost 5years now, following ablation. I do get very short runs of ectopics, randomly, which are momentarily scary but harmless. Easy to think that it’s AF starting.

Wait...you take antihistamines? I think that is a no-no even after an ablation. I have had an ablation, but I was instructed not to take antihistamines or ibuprofen.

Thanks for reply I have antihistamines to help sleep for around 20 yrs and body used to them so little chance of stopping abruptly..noone ever queried and have them on prescription now I was trying to reduce just before lockdown and will continue when life is more ‘normal’!

I was two years AF free after a second ablation and got occasional blips months apart. Then unfortunately got a very nasty flu virus which tipped me back into persistent AF. Having said that I’m still considerably better than I was before my ablations. Am now waiting for ablation number three. Hope yours just stays as blips.
