Are there any critically appraised papers or good research out there connecting SVT and IBS?

My 22-year-old daughter who has IBS had her first episode of SVT last night and her heart rate was 250 bpm. Her heart had to be cardio converted chemically in the emergency room

My daughter has IBS but the only time she had SVT (and nothing in the realms of what your daughter suffered) was whilst she was in late pregnancy and this was attributed to her condition. I can't help with research, I'm afraid you might have to spend some time using Doctor Google. I do hope she has recovered, it must have been frightening for you all.

I also have IBS (as well as reflux problems) and have had ectopic beats, SVT and atrial flutter, the latter two now, hopefully, cured by an ablation last year. In trying to learn more about my condition, I did read a few reports of possible links between gastric issues and arrhythmias. One doctor I saw many years ago also suggested that, in some people, the stomach can be pushed higher by swallowed air or IBS distension to cause it to press on the diaphragm which can then itself physically push against the bottom of the heart. One effect of this, in my case, was to amplify the heart sounds. He didn't say there was a connection with the ectopic beats I was also then suffering, however, but I have, myself, often felt this was so.

What you will more easily find evidence of if you search the Internet is a possible link between arrhythmias and vagus nerve irritation. I often wonder whether the physical effects of the stomach pushing up against the heart might lead to this.

Maybe not directly but if you have IBS, you will have inflammation in your body - you will find a lot of papers about inflammation & AF & both will have very strong ANS & Immune Response links.

Everything is connected to everything else.
