Flecinaide
Hi Booohoo223, I too take Flecainide 2 X 50mg and Metoprolol 2 X 12.5mg daily. What dosage are you on? I've now been in AF constantly since last November. I too have tried different levels of these drugs, but they're not helping much now. So will be interested to see what answers you get. I was diagnosed with AF about 15 years ago and have had numerous cardioversions and 3 ablations over that time .
Have you tried changing your diet to a more natural, plant based one, cutting out all artificial additives. Some people say cutting out sugar has cured them and others that supplementing with magnesium can really help This has brought my rate down to a level I can cope with.

When you say being your rate down , do you mean AF episodes ? I’ve been on Flecinaide a few years now , side effects it would appear since taking it are Eptopic Beats , missed beats and low beats , but not AF )
Yes ectopic beats & missed beats that is what I am having. What to do?
It's difficult to say, because quite often in the summer I can go up to 7 months with no AF at all, then in the other colder months I'm in AF constantly but usually below 100 bpm. A great difference to what I used to have, which was violent attacks every 4-6 weeks, resulting in periods in hospital. Artificial additives in food were a certain trigger for me. I avoid them totally now and am so much better.

Hi Jeanjeannie, Are you sugar free now? And if so are you also cutting out fruit? as I'm told that fruit turns into sugar in your system. It raises the blood sugar levels. I'd believe that sugar causes AFib as I do notice I can get palpitations after sugar or even stewed fruit. I think I'm getting ectopics in the last while....some skipped beats especially at night. Puts me very much on edge! It sounds like they are par for the course on this AFib journey. The stress of this exceptional time is hard the system I find and I'm sure I'm not the only one on here who is feeling this.
Yes, I think the stress of our virus situation could be causing some a little anxiety, which can lead to abnormal beats. I'm having a lot of vivid dreams.
I'm still eating fruit, my sister tells me some vegetables are rich in sugar too. I guess we have to have some. I generally don't eat cakes, biscuits or sweets and have grown to love an organic chicory drink made by The Chicory Co., it has a distinctive lime green label and top. Don't be fooled into buying their chocolate drink though, as it's nasty and bitter.
I became aware of my heart beating oddly every time I ate cake, so that's the one think I'm afraid to cheat and have, actually I don't like it now - never thought I would say that!
Hope you're keeping well.
MMMM I'll look up the chicory drink. I'm drinking a lot of Rooibush tea these days as I got AFib and few times after decaf tea and coffee!! What a bummer that is! I think my system is getting more and more sensitive as I get older those things that I love but am now allergic to....as in cause me to get AFib. I guess the heart gets more sensitive to everything especially to a world that has been brought to such an abrupt hault! It's a very unsettling time for sure and it's not over yet. Long road to go.
Do you live in the UK JeanJeannie?
Yes, I live in the U.K.
Hi Jeanne, Just found that Chicory drink on line. Thanks. I'm in Ireland BTW
I buy it from a little private health shop in the small town where I live in Devon.
Chicory is a natural prebiotic.
I've rung my local HF shop and they have another brand ofOrganic Chicory drink so I'll try that first and see if I like it. I also drink a Dandelion root coffee which is very tasty and also a natural prebiotic ...I think. I get in on line from aprildanann.com She operated from West Cork. It's not cheap mind but so worth it. I don't drink it all the time as it wouldn't be affordable. She advises to use a coffee grinder to ground it down slightly then I put it in a pot with boiling water and bring to the boil, simmer for a short while and then strain it through a coffee filter. Have it with hot frothy milk on top. I don't use as much as she says. I find 2-3teaspoons is enough and you can reuse it by adding one teaspoon each time. You can do it to your own taste. I love it strong! Her site is interesting. She really is a rebel!
I was on flec and metoprolol for 10 years and there were some “episodes” along the way with odd beats, PVCs and even afib from time to time but in general I was well controlled. I was able to exercise, hike up mountains out west and for the most part seemed ok. I gained a ton of weight while on those meds but that is another story. Toward the end of the 10 years I started to notice a decrease in my ability to exercise and sometimes it was bad. That made me consider an ablation, which I had late 2018. I am now on no meds for afib other than Eliquis. Even now however I will gets short periods of odd beats and fast heart rate from time to time and about a month ago I had a week where I would get afib on and off. Not sure if any of that helped but was my experience on those meds. Hope it all works out for you.
Cardiologist app in July. Lots to talk to him about thankyou.
