Mask-making demo without a sewing machine

Sorry if someone has posted something like this before. I have been making masks (thanks to husband for shirt sacrifice) and people keep asking me if you can make them without a sewing machine. Well it seems you can. This is very like the pattern I have been using for my machine made ones, so I post the link in case it's useful. It's looking more and more like masks could become a requirement in more confined spaces. Yes, I know it's not complete protection but better than nothing if you handle them safely and hot wash them (or hot steam iron them). And certainly help stop you passing COVID 19 on if you have it. Take care.

Many thanks! I shall try this. I have been roped in to make masks for staff at my daughter's school using a Good Housekeeping pattern....what a faff having to incorporate wiring over the nose and lining with nonwoven material. It's taken me hours to make 5 🙄 ( 160 staff 🤣😠)

You can use this pattern with your sewing machine too. You could probably do about 10 per hour. (You could leave an opening for a removable filter. Also I have put garden wire inside the top by zig zagging it along the top seam before turning inside out. Very quick!)

Coco51 , 10 an hour, you must be superfast! Thank you for posting that, I watched the video and learned from that; the ones I made had the elastic sewn in the seam. My nephew thanked me for the mask but said he looked like Dumbo, the ear loops were too short and pulling his ears forward!

😂 That happened with mine at first. Now I leave the elastic untied and people can adjust their own!!! It does mean they have knots visible unless they pull them inside the side channel themselves😷

It gets faster but I have to say I meant with a machine it gets faster. I have only done it with a machine.

That was with a machine! I was making three layer masks.

Just completed 2 three layer masks in about 45 mins so really pleased ! Have not bothered wiring as snug fit ( on me anyway !).
