Cartofinder technology

Hi all I’ve had 3 ablations but unfort still in AF permanently. It’s a bind as I get tired a lot.

Surgeon has offered a further ablation with cartofinder mapping technology- new and in theory better mapping during the procedure. He has said my chances of success are about 60% but no data passed 2 yrs. Just not sure what to do as I’m tired of the surgery. Anyone have any thoughts. I’m Only 53

I am no expert and still awaiting my first ablation but you are still young and I bet the majority of this forum would advise you to do it

Whatever you choose good luck

I had 3rd ablation in January, still in afib 2-3 times a week lasting 2hrs to 24hrs, surgeon said he will not do it again. I will not be getting it done again 3rd ablation was horrendous, meant 2 c surgeon in June (think that will be on hold) to c what his plan is.

Hi. I’ve had two ablations and the last one was horrendous. I didn’t recover or see any improvement for months

You don’t say how long ago your last ablation was or if you have any other heart problems.

Only you can decide what’s right for you. For me, I would need to know there are no other solutions and when I feel strong enough then I’d go for it again. It sounds like that’s what you’re doing - good luck!!

My last ablation was in July last year. It takes me normally 3 -6 months to recover post ablation to get back to some form of normality. So this is a tough decision. No other heart issues

I'd guess it takes longer to recover after each one, but without knowing anything about it that seems quite a while now. I got referred to a heart failure consultant who prescribed a higher dose of betablockers during my post ablation tachycardia, which may have helped, and also had a cardioversion, which didn't.

I can only say again, good luck

How many ablations have you had? I felt so much better just 2weeks after my 2nd ablation 3 months ago but, now back in permanent af. Was hoping after 3 months to feel even better, but getting the medication right has not been easy

3 ablations and 4 cardioversions. What u are going through is what makes me concerned. I am also in perm af and have been so for about 10 months. I do ok but get tired quickly depending on the day

Not many people consider back issues that affect nerves that control the heart; but, for me, this is probably the cause of my AF. I am certain it is a big factor because my AF always starts when I have back discomfort. Heart doctors say the discomfort is due to the heart but changing the position of my back changes the heart symptoms so I think the heart doctors have got it wrong. Something to investigate and you might be lucky and find fixing back issues may be a positive influence. Your heart will definitely stop beating if the nerve signals from the brain are stopped; so it does not seem a big stretch to think that compromised signals may confuse the heart.

It's a really difficult one . I had second ablation in July last year and subsequently have developed atrial tachycardia as a consequence. In Jan Consultant offered to put me on list for ablation for tachycardia but after much discussion we both agreed to monitor for a while with addition of anti arrhythmic drug. Consultant will not however do further ablation for AF due to extent of scarring.I felt it was too soon to have any further procedure as tbh the recovery from 2nd ablation has taken far longer than the first and I feel my body needs a rest! I'm a few years older than you. Prior to ablation none of the drugs worked for me.

After my second ablation I had tachycardia but after the third ablation they managed to fix it so I guess I’m lucky. Still get so tired though. The meds did not work for me either so I would be reliant on the ablation working on its own

Interesting- was 3rd for AT only which is what consultant was proposing?-will prob need to go down this route at some point as he says it will get worse over time and leaves me exhausted for few days after

It was an af ablation and to fix the AT
