Had a nasal skin graft on Tuesday. This is to stop more bleeds so I can tolerate ablation. But 30 hours later I'm back in Afib. I think it is triggered by dehydration (eight hours without liquid, I did warn them)

Yesterday they said they would do TOE and Cardioversion. Then at 10pm they suddenly put a line in my neck and are giving me amiadarone. They now plan to control rate and send me home to wait for long promised ablation.

This is a nightmarish repeat of last autumn when they sent me home as a zombie until I collapsed and was readmitted.

Strangely, last time they were adamant I needed anticoagulants, this time adamant I don't need them coz of my bleeding disorder. I'm very unhappy.

Not even sure why I am posting this except as therapy ....

Therapy is good. You have reason to be disheartened.

Dealing with AF when you have more than one condition to consider is complex - I know as I have autoimmune disease. Specialists are all well and good and obviously experts in their field but rarely widen their field of vision to consider the wider perspective - and there in lies the problem. I have found I have needed to become an expert on my own conditions and check and double check everything before taking.

EG:- I recently had a serious UTI with suspected sepsis. Surgery responded quickly and appropriately but if I hadn’t questioned the script of antibiotics I could have been the victim of unintended consequences! 4 antibiotics had to be researched and discounted before we all agreed I could try that one reasonably safely.

I seem to remember from earlier posts that you have under active thyroid and the bleeding condition led to mild anaemia?

The frustrations and limits on our expectations of returning to once full health and fitness are probably the most difficult to come to terms with but take it slowly and mindfully, one step at a time and you will come to a place of acceptance and be able to enjoy life once again, hopefully in full health and appropriate fitness. As we age (=anyone over 60 in my book) we need to adjust our expectations of being as we were when younger - and that is hard!

Best wishes CD

You DO have a good memory. Yes I have the unholy trinity of HHT, afib and underactive thyroid. You are dead right about their narrow focus! As you said WE have to be the experts ourselves!

Really bad. As soon as they took me off the intravenous drugs my HR climbed and I got very breathless again. Now trying digoxin. It didn't work last year and I to,d them that, but they insist on trying it again. Sigh.

Thanks for,thinking of me x
