I had a quadruple bypass in 2008. All went well untill last year when I developed AF. I saw the cardiologist who prescribed Bisoprolol 3.75 and Rivaroxaban. Angiogram on 30/12/2020 confirmed that arteries were ok.
Currently I continue to experience AF on a permanent basis although doctor always describes it as paroxysmal. My main problems now are tiredness, headache, symptoms similar to a heavy cold. I’m due to see the EPs in April although my cardiologist didn’t think I would be a candidate for an ablation which means I would just continue to suffer with the AF.
I would welcome any advice.
Thank you

Hello Raj and welcome to the place you would rather not be. I guess with your history you will need more specialist care so it’s great that you are on track to see an EP fairly soon. In the meantime, check out the Pinned Post to the right of this page, “Useful links for Newbies and Oldies” where you will find easy access to a lot of information which should help you understand the option for ongoing treatment.
It can either be the symptoms of AF or the side effects of Bisoprolol which are causing you to feel unwell, but there are alternatives and it’s important that you keep a record of how you feel and share it with your EP. Many here with persistent AF go on to lead fairly normal lives once they are stable and on the right medication for them so don’t despair, the early days are always the worst!
I agree the effects on me from bisoprolol are like having eaten a vitality and energy sponge. I think it might be worth a GP visit and ask about having a beat regulator ( I don’t know if the commonest one, flecainide, would be good for you ) but there are others as flap jack said this is a journey that starts off miserable it gets better so keep optimistic and let us know how you get on
I am taking 5mg Bisoprolol twice per day plus 100 mg Amiodarone once per day. But they are giving me sleep problems so taking Valarian root and Passionflower. To help with sleep. But still feel tired a lot of the day. I see Ep at Stoke on 17th March when will review tests I have had like 24hr Holter Monitor Lung function test and Eckocardiogram. I think it could be another Ablation ? Had my first one three years ago. As would like to get if this medication and feel normal again as feel like a zombie some days and do not enjoy my food as I used to and Holidays’s are out of the question at the moment as love cruising have done 6 in past years but not on at the moment ?
