Hi ... can l take Eliquis with squid oil? Why was l prescribed 5.0 mg. Eliquis twice per day instead of 2.5 mg. Twice per day? Why do they start with the higher dose rather than the lowest dose? It’s weird!

I am on 5mg twice a day as well and that is where I started. I figured it was because of my size - 265 pounds.

5mg twice a day is the standard dose for AF. The lower dose is prescribed if you are under 60kg in weight, or over 80 years old, or have kidney problems.

5mg is the standard dose. Squid oil is high in omega 3 and this should be discussed with doctor or pharmacist as in high doses I believe omega 3 is contraindicated as it is a natural anticoagulant and may increase risk of bleeding.

I do take 600mg of omega 3 with apixaban but this is much lower than recommended dose which is 1200 to 2400mg. I would NEVER advise anyone to do the same without a medical consult.

I take healthspan omega 3 600mg caps. Usex to take the 1000 but I am now only taking one every otber day because I've now got tamoxifen in the mix which MAY increase blood levels of apixaban.

I am 80 and weigh about 10lbs more than suggested weight for 2.5mgs bid. I don't have any kidney issues btw but I take 2.5mgs bid altho cardiologist put me on 5mg bid but doesn't makes sense that someone weighing so much more than my 142lbs can also be on the 5mgs.

Well l weigh ten lbs less than you do! I think that l will call Eliquis tomorrow about this issue. I did speak with my doctor’s nurse about it yesterday and he said that 5 mg is the recommended dose for afib patients as long as their kidneys are healthy?? I would prefer to take the smaller dose? I agree with you.
