Not posted for a while, though I check in every day! Some of you might recall my posts last year regarding my OH - he had ablation in Nov 2018; he’d been taking Amiodarone which caused lung damage; he had bronchial pneumonia in August; followed by shingles! He’s still waiting for another ablation - Amiodarone was stopped, bisoprolol was replaced with Sotalol. Also still sees respiratory specialist - though, annoyingly his appointment on 3 Jan was cancelled & still haven’t heard about replacement! Luckily, he’d already got an appointment in the pipeline for March - his steroid meds had been tapered to 5mg daily & we were hoping he’d be taken off them in Jan! Meantime, he’s had a couple of ‘funny turns’ - really hot, faint - GP thinks possibly due to going on to Sotalol, and then increase in dosage. She’s reduced the dosage, but also referred him to stroke clinic, just ‘to rule it out, given his history’!. We’d just started to feel confident enough to think about a trip to Madeira too! Hey ho, one day! He has reduced his working hours - now only works 3 days a week, same days as me - not sure yet whether that’s a good th8ng or not lol!

Little update
Nannynoonoo - it’s some years since I was put onto Sotalol - it was an awful drug for me I felt my heart palpitations were worse - but the main thing I found was that I was completely zoned out with it I couldn’t think straight I felt low and scared much worse than before I’d been put onto it. I was taken off it after a short time and then onto Bisoporol .
I’ve since had a Cryoablation which did improve my AF - I’m now in persistent AF which I have become accustomed to - I take Nebivolol 1.25 mg daily along with Edoxaban.
Sotalol may suit some but it is a dreadful drug as far as I’m concerned.
Regards Cathy.
Sotalol (drugs.com) is both a beta blocker and an antiarrhythmic. Nebivolol is a beta blocker. I am curious as to whether you are going to have another ablation since you are now accustomed to persistent AF? Are you sailing you are now going to sail into permanent?
Hi Nanny, sorry to hear about all your discouragements but I hope you get to Madeira in the end, best wishes and don't forget to tell us when you do 😊
Oh bless you. Sometimes it's worse for the OH than for the patient. I hope you enjoy Madeira. I've never been but I understand it's quite beautiful. Will you be getting assistance for your OH. If you are flying from Gatwick it really is worth it!
We’ve been to Madeira several times & yes, it’s beautiful! It’s quite hilly, so we will have to choose a hotel carefully 😊😊. We will fly from Birmingham or East Midlands - we’ve always tried to avoid Gatwick & Heathrow as it’s a bit of pain from where we live!
Look at the assistance that they offer at East Midlands and Madiera. It really does make life easier and can be organised through your Travel agent at no extra cost. I did it at Gatwick and at Lanzarote Airport and was treated like a queen both times. Have a wonderful time!
