Hi there, I have no experience in this- but from what I’ve picked up, I think it is judged case by case. So I think he will need to check with his consultant.
I’ve read of people having a cystoscopy without stopping their anticoagulant. But if a biopsy is being planned they may want him to be off it for a day or two in advance. It’s always the tricky balance of risk, isn’t it?
I hope you can get a helpful answer tomorrow. And I hope all goes well for him and the results are all good x
Many many thanks for the reply Jane I will check in the morning .....sometimes you just feel as if your a dart board and once past 70yrs it's like spin the wheel ...it's frightening if they explained procedures to the elderly it would allay half the fears ....thank you sweetie pie! Xxx
Oh yes!!! I feel that in many respects our medics don’t take the view that (whatever age we are) it helps to be informed, to understand, and be able to be active in our own health and treatment. Or maybe it’s just that everyone is so rushed in the NHS. But I am trying to be more assertive about such things
By the way, just reading your question again, I don’t think they’ll be concerned that the xarelto will make him bleed during the procedure... It’s just that if they themselves cause any bleeding (eg taking a biopsy) it takes longer for the blood to clot when you’re on anticoagulants. I’m sure you knew this, but thought I’d say just in case 😊)
Please do let us know what they say, and how he gets on. Jxxx
