No sleep
Hello Tilly, I see that you were diagnosed only recently so maybe your lack of sleep is due to a number of different factors. Bisoprolol often makes folk feel tired and lethargic and some say it makes them feel sleepy so perhaps anxiety is contributing to your problem. When I was first diagnosed, I was certainly in a bit of a state, as my wife will testify, and one of the members here came up with some suggestions which I found very helpful.
1. Avoid TV and computer screens at least an hour before going to bed.
2. Try drinking hot milk, not chocolate, cocoa or coffee.
3. Slightly lift the head end of the bed a few inches by slipping a couple of books under the legs.
4. Try playing relaxing music or one of the sleep inducing apps if possible on a device with an automatic timer function.
5. Set your pillows in an inverted V formation with the pointed bit touching the headboard as this will discourage tossing and turning.
I’m sure others will come up with other suggestions but these are the ones that worked for me when I had a problem, but pleased to say, no longer needed!
I was put on bisoprolol and it made me more sleepy during the day , but I think anxiety is the main cause with afib for insomnia.
I do swear by magnesium, and take a bath in epsom salts before bed every night, followed by a magnesium supplement 25 mins before i want sleep as you can't keep your eyes open once it's taken, it really does work.
Which form of magnesium supplement do you take please?
The cardio vascular research ones from amazon Sandi, white bottle with red text, used them a couple of years now.
I don't have anything to do with Amazon! What are they called and what form of magnesium do they involve, please? I'm sure one can get them from other people or directly from the manufacturer.
I would take it up with your GP or pharmacist. I was given the lowest dose of Bisoprolol and after only three days I consulted the pharmacist who had said, unlike the GP, that he wanted to know how I was getting on with newly prescribed drugs. I had been feeling very tired and after taking my pulse he told me to stop taking it immediately and he must have rung the doctor as I got to see him as soon as I arrived and he agreed that I should stop taking it! It brought my heart rate down dangerously low! We are all different and the only way doctors will realise this is if we report how differently we respond to medications. Getting a decent night's sleep is very important so do please go to see your GP and good luck!
First two weeks on bisoprolol and apixiban I found sleep difficult although I felt really tired and was having weird dreams that I woke up in panic or in tears but have got better until onset of uti which is waking me up to go pee every couple of hours but have med review with gp tomorrow am also on atorvastatin and amlodipine and mess for cops 1 st time to see gp since diagnosis of a fib in Dec so hoping he has some answers not had any issues with a fib since but I'm certain I had irregular Heat beat for a few years I had mentioned it to go 6 years ago so confused with it all at min
