I took another 10mg bisoprolol. That means I took 10mg in the morning then 10mg this evening. Not a wise thing to do but it worked. I will make dr appointment tomorrow. The thing is I started a new job, and it’s the first decent job I have had in ages so don’t want to mess it up with absence. And the exercise will help my af. I am also half way through my open University year so can’t afford not drop out and I have also started voluntarily work and I do not want to let them down either.
I hope the dr will be able to give meds without having to do anymore referrals to any particular specialist.
In five years I have gone from 2.5mg to 20mg....even if I don’t go to dr, which I will, they will notice the frequency of the medication.
I think exercise on the job tomorrow will help. It’s probably because I have been idle for a fortnight.
I wish I had that flecinade stuff. Only ever had it when I went to hospital with it before diagnosed, I can still feel the soothing cooling sensation in my mind. It was such a relief.

Hey Zeeby, welcome to the AF forum. You’re among friends here - you’ll find people here understand the range of worries and stresses we go through with this AF lark... and also have wide ranging experiences of medication and treatments
It sounds to me like you have an awful lot of pressures on you, and you might be finding everything a bit overwhelming... it’s natural to just hope the AF will be ok as we juggle the pressures of life (we’ve all been there) but realistically this isn’t going to help. The good news is that AF is in many ways very treatable- in fact, even some lifestyle changes can transform things for many people.
Having good medical support that you have confidence in feels very important. So I’m really pleased you’re going to see your doctor tomorrow Please do explain things fully to him/her so they can help. And if you haven’t already been referred to a specialist cardiologist (EP), then I think that would be a great idea?
Something that really helped me (even though I’d rather be an ostrich really and bury my head in the sand!) was to find out more about AF and its possible treatments, so that I feel more in control of what’s going on. If you haven’t already, I’d really recommend going to the AFA website and reading up on it all:
And though no one is medically qualified here, there’s a vast range of experience and support too, so feel free to ask or discuss anything
Take care, Jane x
Wow! If I'm reading your post right that's playing around with a mighty awesome drug ............. hopefully at some point you'll be able to reduce your dose.
I would never play with this one except under medical advice.
But one tip I'll give you ...... putting a positive spin on it all, when you come to the point you wanna reduce your dose and/or come off it you MUST reduce very slowly ...... for heaven sake ............. DO NOT just stop it. Better still check with your healthcare professionals first.
I was on 10mg Bisoprolol morning and night for about 7 months but was very symptomatic, side effects were too much. Go back to GP and explain your story and ask to be referred to Cardiologist or Electrophysiologist as your GP won't prescribe Flecainide or any other AF drugs withough the Cardiologists say so. Please do not mess around with these very potent heart drugs without professional say so. All the best.
I took maximum of 5 mg ( 2.5 mg twice ) of Bisoprolol. Not more than that ever. it lowered my HR as well as BP also. I think it is better to talk with your Dr immediately.
I was on 10 mg of bisoprolol at start of AF but then sorted my diet out and got rid of any stress then my heart rate feel to a very low rate GP reduced my dose to 2.5 and for last 3 years now my rate. has been normal so diet and less stress a must good luck
Firstly. That is very dangerous to double a 10mg dose. 10 mg is the max daily dose my cardiologist will allow. Your GP WILL NOT notice and call you in till too late. I take Bisoprolol and have 3 ablations and a pacemaker. The side effects of bisoprolol are very weak legs and breathlessness as they seriously slow down your heart. The max I take is 7.5 split over 2 doses and then adjust by breaking tablets and increasing / decreasing by 1.25 mg per time. Lately I was running constantly around 110bpm so decided as bisoprolol not really helping and side effects too much cut dose to 2.5 daily and it immediately improved.
You really need to see a cardiologist asap and be on blood thinners. The af apparently isnt life threatening but the resulting strokes are if not on anti coags.
Good luck with the new job. Perhaps Try 2.5 x 2 and magnesium citrate.
