Sickness and medication

Hi all, just thinking, everyone is coming down with sickness around here! How will this affect us on medication? I’m thinking bisoprolol, artovastatin and Pradaxa anticoagulant.

Hi Val :-) a few months after I began taking AF medication I contracted Noro Virus and spent a night wrapped in a duvet on the bathroom floor too ill to crawl backwards and forwards to bed.

My greatest concern was not being able to keep down my anticoagulant (Apixaban) and worrying that this would increase my suceptability to stroke. I missed 24 hours of my dose.

I thought about it logically and how people have to suspend a dose during medical procedures and that helped to put things in perspective.

The main thing if you do have a tummy bug is trying to stay hydrated, if you can tolerate tiny frequent amounts of water that is great, I added a little salt and honey to the water and only had a sip at a time.

I try to avoid crowds and germs when I can by shopping early and always wash my hands the moment I arrive home when I have been out.

Stay well :-)

Hi Val :-) I didn't take my meds until I was pretty sure I had finished being ill the reason being had I done so and vomited I would not know how much of my medication had been absorbed into my system. With an antcoagulant like Apixaban I would not want to risk an overdose so I waited and missed 2 (12 hourly) doses.

If it is worrying you check with your GP, I mentioned it to mine and she said I had done the right thing under the circumstances.

Thanks so much for that 💕

When my stomach is upset, I am ok with skipping cholesterol med for a day or two.
