Any suspicion of asthma and beta blockers are not a good idea as they can exacerbate it.

No....am in permanent AF......and took it for about 5 years.

Got a bit "puffy" on hills, but not to do with meds, I feel.

Made me very fatigued and snail like at times though!

I get on better with Bisoprolol

I didn't. Due to Bisoprolol I spent two days in hospital as it affected my breathing. Worse still it triggered urticaria which occurs every day.

I was prescribed Bisoprolol by a hospital doctor who did not have access to my heart specialist's notes. I had my appendix out during which operation my heart went over 190 beats per minute - it was 190 when I was woken up 3 hours after my operation had finished. That well meaning doctor then prescribed the medication. 7 weeks later the itchy rashes started. I was taken off all beta-blockers as research showed they all had this (very rare) side effect. It's especially bad when I'm warm in bed, but can and does, occur at any time of the day or night. I take 2 - 4 antihistamines a day. So for my permanent 24/7 AF I take only an anti-coagulant, tried and tested Warfarin being my anticoagulant of choice. I have my own INR meter.

Interesting, because I was recently prescribed beta blockers, and originally given propanolol, and it worked really well, but then the hospital doc wanted me to switch to bisopropol, and I said "why? the propanolol is working really well" and he said "because it's old fashioned". So I switched to bisopropol, and my flutters came back straight away, and I felt a weird tightness in my chest as well and a slight feeling of it being a bit hard to breathe. So after a few days I thought **** this, and went back on the propanolol. Old fashioned or not, it seems to work for me.

They said Atenolol was old fashioned to me even though it was the only BB that didn't give me side effects. Makes you think they are on commission?

I was on Atenolol for four years. But last time in hospital they told me they don’t use it much now as does not mix well with other medications. They now have me on 10mg Bisoprolol per day and 250mcg Digoxin. Heart rate still 130+ at times so been referred to Stoke for second Ablation. My last one was four years ago. So Ablation roll on as sick of feeling tired and lifeless a lot of the time. How successful are Second ablations ? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks. Mike.

I can only speak from my experience. I had to have a second ablation because I was six months persistent for my first. Fr my first, not all of the rogue points were able to be ablated due to the swelling of the heart as a result of a very long procedure. For the second ablation, the procedure was relatively short-- one hour, not counting set-up time. It was for peri-mitral atrial flutter , plus the ablated areas around the superior pulmonary vein had reconnected. So, I had to hav a third to ablate that area as well as atrial flutter in the right atrium this time. I am now five months in sinus rhythm.

I consider my second ablation a success because the peri-mitral atrial was terminated ; even though I has to have a third. Since your first lasted four years, your EP may be able to ablate all the areas without recurrence for a long time.

Thanks for the advice. Don’t get to see consultant until 3rd Dec. The clinic have got my rate down to below 100bpm but not without side effects from Bisoprolol and Digoxin 👿
