Hi, I've been prescribed beta blockers for PAF 5 mg morning and night. Is this hi dosage please? I'm wondering if to ask for it lowering, I've had a day of fatigue today, on top of a head cold. Feeling quite rubbish.

All sounds quite normal. Some people don't like beta blockers as they make them feel like zombies. These are usually first call for treatment of AF but there are others. Talk to your doctor.

Hi Bob, seems I'm lucky, I don't feel like a zombie, lol. I think maybe with the cold to cope with, I had 3 days of fatigue too. I'm back on form and luckily the meds I take do seem to suit me. Thanks for your answer.

Beta blockers have tiredness as a side effect.

They are used predominately for rate control but may also reduce the frequency of episodes.

Which one are you on?

I'm on Bisoprolol . Its all new stuff to me this. As I'm sat here my heart will begin to bump for no reason for a few seconds and then return to normal. Its very difficult to get my head round it all. From being no signs to this, its rotten. By from reading on here I know I'm a lucky one.

Hi Yanny,

Talk to your Doctor as BobD has already suggested. One bit of advice l can give you. The normal heart rate of an adult is between 60 to 100 bpm at rest. Find out what rate you have (a guide is on the AFA website on how to take your pulse if you don't know). If the beta blocker is bringing down your heart rate below 60 bpm it needs adjusting. This is what l did when initially l was placed on 2.5mg, brought my heart rate below 50 bpm, my Doctor immediately changed it to 1.25mg. Hope this information helps.

Best Wishes

Barry

Hi Barry thanks for that, yes I'm at 60 so alls good there. Do you suddenly have a mad few seconds of fast, deep beats? On occasions I can see my chest move! My clothes move and if I'm holding an object to my chest, it actually moves. Very scary.

I used to take 12.5 mg Carvedilol 2X per day (my beta blocker) and my blood pressure was pretty low so my cardiologist decreased it to 6.25 mg 2X per day. I would say you are on a fairly average dose! Hoping your head cold eases...try steam and hot tea with honey and lemon ( I guess I can't really recommend a little Irish Whiskey can I....) and with the fatigue I'm right there by your side...fatigued away! Go with it and watch Love it or List it! If those two don't drive you to drink the Irish Whiskey nothing will! Cheers to you! You earned your rest so take it! I know I will!

Thanks for your answers everyone. Seems like I'm on the right dose at 5mg twice per day then. Also sounds as if I'm quite lucky as I have the odd days of fatigue, now my colds passed I feel normal again. Its just very odd, I'm normally active and bubbly, chatty etc. Its as if My personality changes. Tired, lazy, not bothered if I see people or not. I think the best thing is to grab the good times with both hands. Luckily I have more good than bad. Best wishes to you all.xxx

Hi Yanny D! Yes... our personalities seem alike! I'll be 60 next time and one little stab of left pain or I'm out of breath up the stairs and I'm telling myself the script... st least it's not a heart transplant, st least your valves work🙀...I always have to say that to stay sane during aFib and chest crushing shortness of breath. It is so hard! And I already have a CRT/D Heart device and 20 medications for heart, Sjögrens, connective tissue, CKD, migraines, and fibromyalgia . All that, and it's the heart that gets me psyched every time! So let's grab life... let it go... be antisocial...and go to therapy... and invite everyone over for wine brandy and The Bachelor. We don't know what tomorrow's heartbeat will bring!❤️🌈💜💋🌹
