I am new to A/FIB and not coping too well, I have been getting conflicting advice from consultants over medications ,and it is now difficult to get an appointment to see a gp. it is a help to find this community, I take a beta blocker at present but I am getting so much nausea most days ,awake most nights for 3/4 hours and getting lot more gerd since A/FIB convinced the 2 are connected.?

Hello and welcome.

Could you tell us which beta blocker you are taking, what strength it is and when you take it.

Could you tell us your age so that anticoagulation can be discussed.

My atrial flutter / fibrillation was fixed in June by ablation but many gastric symptoms continue. My doctor feels that a flare up of my GORD and hiatus hernia likely caused the whole problem and still hasn’t settled.

I’ve avoided nausea so far, thankfully, and am keeping my fingers firmly crossed that it stays that way as it’s a symptom that I struggle to cope with. Sometimes I’ve had it for months on end. Your husband has my sympathies. It can early bring on a depressed mood, I find.

Is he talking lansoprazole or similar? Has he tried asking the GP to double the dose temporarily? That helps me.

Hi there. I'm new on this forum and still not officially diagnosed with A Fib, however it runs in my family and docs suspect this, and I'm still awaiting results from the echo and holter. But just to tell you, I also have bowel disease, not IBS, IBD - ulcerative colitis. And I have had problems with frequent nausea for years now - well before I was diagnosed with UC in early 2017. So I'm guessing it's not the beta blockers, I thought they tended to lower blood pressure sometimes a bit too much so side effects would be feeling faint etc. But I am not a doc. But I do believe there is a link between bowel issues and palpitations. I mean, certainly, what you eat or drink can make a difference. Some say caffeine does not trigger palps. Nonsense. It does. As can heavy meals. And Prednisone, which I take for my UC but I am tapering down the dose regularly, is linked to triggering A Fib, which is possibly why my palps got so much worse after being on Prednisone for a few months.

AF makes me feel nauseous, but it isn't clear whether you only have it during an episode? If so, it's probably the AF, if not it is probably connected to the cause of the AF, assuming it is not the medication.
