I had an undiagnosed hole in the heart and quite likely had Afib. also undiagnosed......40 years ago. I was fine re. Afib. and hole but you ought to speak,at least; to your GP about this or a cardiologist.I do not feel I should say much more as I am not a medic.

Hi Michelle,

Can't remember all the details now but my daughter, then aged 30 to 33 developed /acquired AF during both her pregnancies. Can't recall the treatment I'm afraid. However, once she stopped breeding the AF stopped. In both cases the AF did not impact on my two grandaughters. Not much help I'm afraid and of course the caveat is that this only applied to my daughter. Can't speak for other young women of child bearing age.

However, all that said you should consider that it is possible genetics has a role to play in AF. The family gene pool, (on one side or another, or even both) can contribute to an individuals AF. In my case on my fathers side of the family we can trace strokes back to my Grandfather, back in the day, in 1964 he had had a series of strokes but there is nobody alive nowadays who can provide the details. My second cousin who is my generation and is the grandson of my grandfathers brother has/had AF, I have AF and my daughter this pregnancy induced AF.

Maybe on one side of your family or the other there maybe a history of cardiac/stroke related health issues which might reflect this gene pool.

Do suggest though, if only for peace of mind, you consult your medical team and get a

referral to an EP ..... even if you have to pay for it yourself, if you are able to. Maybe there are other ladies on this forum who can comment further and in particular how the vagal nerve might be affected by pregnancy.

My daughter has never had AF return ( mind you what happens when she hits her mid 60's way in the future who knows !) and she now practices a form of martial arts - Thai Kick Boxing.
