Should have paid attention to an earlier post!

Hi all, I really should have paid attention to an earlier post, I did read them but I can’t remember the answers......( well I can’t remember all sorts of things these days!!!!!) so I’m off to Oz next week....it’s what to do about time and tablets....I had my ablation 8 months back but cardio keeping me on my tablets till after Oz .

So I take my Felc, Bisoprolol, losarten and apixaban....in morn 19 th Thursday as usual, get on plane.......so it’s then U.K. midnight, Singapore 5 am I land........so I guessed I’d take my nighttime Thursday dose of apixaban eh.?

I thought maybe skipp days tablets Friday the flec, losarten apixaban etc....and just start that night Friday with another apixaban and the start Saturday morning with my flec etc.........

I fly to Oz Sunday morning and can cope with the time difference there much easier......

What do you guys think? I’ve gotten really confused with all this, don’t want to take the darn things too early on top of other doses thought better to miss some, but don’t want to miss apixaban withflying.....equally don’t want free flowing liquid blood!!!

As for missing tablets a question, does it really matter missing one dose?

Thanks,

Sue

Hi Morzine - the one I would be most concerned with is the apixaban which as you will be aware, needs to be taken 12 hourly so I would stick to that or within an hour or two timeframe whatever. If it were a choice between missing a dose or taking it too early then I would miss a dose but try not to change the timings of it more than the 2 hours required - just you will be taking your morning dose in the evening and vice versa.

That’s what I have always done when travelling but interested to hear others.

Flec - as long as you don’t exceed the maximum dose in any 24 hours period ie - 300 mg - I don’t think is as important so it could be taken - as required?

The others I wouldn’t know too much about but again the advice I have always been given is to try to alter the timings by an hour or two at max per 24 hour period - or miss a dose if you have to but whatever, don’t try to ‘make up’ for missed dose or timing. Stick to your normal routine as much as possible.

At least in Oz (Sydney) you will be only 10 hours difference so you shouldn’t really need to worry - you will only be a couple of hours off and you can take your tablets whilst travelling at your usual times if you stay on your UK timings. I found 6-8 hours of difference the most difficult to cope with.

Hi Morzine,

I fly to Sydney often and don't bother. I'm on warfarin. So, I'm going to use Sydney as my example.

If I leave Heathrow anytime in the evening London time AND I fly direct (no stopovers other than changing planes say at Hong Kong/Singapore/KL) I take my evening meds then (which includes the Warfarin) and when I get to Sydney usually around sunrise Sydney time I then resume my morning meds as if I were still in UK. Never yet given me a problem.

Just one tip though, take your latest NHS prescriptions with you and any written evidence of your conditions. Take a couple of days supply in your carry on baggage (in case of delays en route) and the rest in your hold baggage .... just in case you are challenged by the authorities in Sydney. I've never yet had a problem but ya never know - might be someones bad hair day !

Don't know about apixaban - why not check out with your local Pharmacy before you go ?

Generally your total travelling time to Sydney, for example, will be around 20 to 22 hours, airport to airport, so taking an apixaban at 11 hours after departure from Heathrow seems reasonable.

On a lighter note, if you are going to Sydney you just gotta do the Sydney Harbour Bridge climb, bloody awesome ! anyway - enjoy your trip and my homeland.

John
