Echo result query

The echocardiogram shows normal biventricular structure and function. There is a mild degree of diastolic dysfunction. The afria is of normal size. The RC and LC of the aortic valve appear partly fused but there is no significant aortic stenosis or regurgitation. The aortic root is mildly dilated when indexed with the BSA.The absolute values are 3.5cm at the sinus of valsalva and 3.4cm at the ascending aorta. There are no other significant abnormalities.

These findings are reassuring. I am happy to discharge her back to your care but I will arrange a repeat echocardiogram in 5 years time just to reassess the aortic roog dimensions. She may require further interval measurements in due course.

How will they do further measurements if they have discharged me and should I ask for second opinion. I have previous history of PAF and lost daughter from heart at 18 mths in BRI years ago.

I would welcome any thoughts on this.

Thanks

Jane

I have been waiting to see if anybody else responded as much of this is above my pay grade (lol) but here is my take on it.

Many people have heart valves that are not quite normal and never ever know. The fact that it is working fine with no back flow is good. The rest of your heart sounds to be in good condition.

The report does not say that there is a problem but merely suggests checking again in five years. I think in the circumstances that this is acually not a bad result. Similarly the size of the aorta would be a natural thing to follow up from time to time.

In other words relax.

Thanks Bob for respnding when you have been in hospital yourself recently!

I think your take is probably right but with a family history like mine, I suspect I worry more than most - its beyond my pay grade too, and as they say a little knowledge is dangerous!

Thanks again, hope you are doing ok now. My hubby had ten years of severe AF for 10 years and had to retire on ill health grounds. His problem was the other side of the heart and the op wasnt available for quite a while. Would have liked to be kept on the outpatient list though!
