Good morning peeps, whilst at the hairdressers yesterday I got chatting to a guy who works in healthcare, I mentioned a close call I had with a craft knife and although the cut was small it bleed a lot and took a while to stop, he mentioned that Kaltostat is good for reducing the bleed and is widely available, as I’ve only been diagnosed and on meds for 2 months I was unsure if it would work, anyone got any experience?. I am careful when handling sharp tools but there is always a possibility of getting cut!.

Kaltostat is a seaweed based dressing (alginate) that is supposed to dissolve is water so you don't have to remove it and disturb clots. It is a soft fibre that provides something to assist clotting by providing something for the blood to stick to.

I used it daily on dialysis patients. It was effective.

The cost in the latest British National Formulary is 0.59 to £2.83. I don't know if this is per sheet or per pack. Nor do I know if the Pharmacist will sell you a pack.
