Cq10 Supplement

Droopy60 profile image
8 Replies

I am currently on Bisoprolol 5mg, Digoxin 125 mcg, Furesimide 80mg, Simvastatin 40 mg, Metformin 1000 mg, Perindopril 8 mg and Dabigatran. I am suffering lack of energy in legs and SOB on activity together with abdominal fluid retention. Does anybody know whether Cq10 Supplement would help as I have heard so many good things about it. I am 62.

Big YES to COQ10 helping the heart generally but not sure about the fluid retention Have you spoken to your doctor about this and have you had an echocardiogram recently?

I take COQ10, L-Cartinine + D-Ribose - makes a huge difference however you should talk to your doctor or a professional before taking any supplements to check for interactions with your drugs and to ensure there are no other contraindications. We are not qualified to give you that information so please seek professional advice.

Only problem with checking with doctors

Is they have no knowledge what so ever on vitamins

They are not trained in any form of nutrition and also have a bias view on this subject

Yes good to be safe check but doctors have no idea

so true and to play it safe they will advise not to take supplements :( I have Dr Stephen Sinatra's book and go by his info

I agree that most doctors will not advise to take - but they will say if a substance would be contraindicated for you eg: Magnesium for me. Often recommended for AF but as I have another condition for which it is absolutely contraindicated and that is why you should check with your doctor.

The reason they don’t recommend - I just had a lengthy discussion re this - is they are ethically unable as there are no research studies that prove how they work within the body - but they are working on that.

Personally, I’ve not met a doctor yet who says not to take COQ10 so what I do is say - is there any reason I shouldn’t be taking ..........

Sorry disagree

Doctors don’t have the knowledge first all

They have not studied nutrition at all

Secondly the research in orthodox is questionable ? As to how reliable it is

We have to do our own research

Take charge of our own health journey

We do have to do our own research AND we need the expertise of doctors and other professionals because it’s SO complex.

I do take my health journey very seriously - which many on this forum will know -and work in a voluntary capacity with 2 doctors, nutritionist and other functional medicine practitioners doing just that, running an organisation promoting Lifestyle Medicine - supported by our local hospital by the way as we also go into to talk to the staff - and doctor’s training is changing rapidly and I would refer you to nutritank.com - read and learn.

Nutritional training is limited at present but the goal is high and Lifestyle Medicine is slowly taking centre stage - trouble is most patients don’t lose weight, don’t stop drinking, won’t take exercise and want a pill to make it all go away - and all the doctors that I speak to say they get too fed up talking to the hand and don’t have enough time & resources to do the testing on the NHS or be able to spend time with the patient. NHS appointment time = 10 mins Lifestyle Medicine = 1 hour appoint, 2 hours studying the patient’s history, 1 hour appointment advising and following up.

There are plenty of them around - but not on the NHS.

And have you read Dr Sinatra’s book on metabolic cardiology or know about the research going on at Imperial at the moment? Excellent information on the nutrition for the heart and this article on COQ10 discusses the different types and recommendations on how much to take to be useful.

Hi

Yes CQ10

Is amazing it bring all the energy to the cell

It worked for me but I did not take any orthodox medication for AFib

First I would image u have been to your Doctor regarding your fluid overload to check heart

The only problem is that beta blockers block that vital energy to the heart

Look st all your medication as well fatigue and other symptoms could be side effects from meds.

Lastly DR Rath amazing doctor writes a lot on cardiac health and vitamins

If you are on a statin it is essential to take Co enzyme Q10 or the more active Ubiquinol form. This is because the statin blocks the formation of this in the liver along with the cholesterol. A lack of co enzyme Q10 is not only bad for our hearts but for all the other muscles in our body as it is vital in the metabolic cycle which turns food into energy that takes place in the mitochondria in every cell of our bodies. Heart muscle has lots of mitochondria.
