My Amiodarone was stopped back in April after Mitral Valve surgery in sinus rhythm now. In June I got pins and needles in my arm and leg ended in hospital after having a stroke. After a load of tests they discover an overactive thyroid which had caused the stroke. Now on thyroid medication feeling really rough. Weakness is leg so recover from surgery starts again. I did not want to go on the Amiodarone but was told it would help the heart

I am not a doctor but from my own experience thyroid meds. do not'go' with Amioderone. Doctors 'do not' prescribe the 2 together. Maybe you have an exceptional case but check this out carefully before taking both these meds. together without a good explanation.
Two or three things with this.
After your operation where you not put on anticoagulants to help prevent strokes?
Amiodarone is a really toxic drug and I assume you have read all you can on this drug. I was on Amiodarone for five months, it did no good but it, like you, did my thyroid in and I now have tablets for life.
Hope you progress OK.
I’ve been on Amiodarone for nearly a year, six months on 200mg, three months on 100mg and this final three months on 50mg before its stopped. Regular blood tests to keep eye on any side affects (none thankfully). It has all but cured my AF with just a few bouts of ectopics during this period. Alas a angiogram has showed one artery with an 80% occlusion which will prevent me going on flecanide.
